Originally published in 1955. Features Hercule Poirot (#30).

An outbreak of kleptomania at a student hostel was not normally the sort of crime that aroused Hercule Poirot's interest. But the list of stolen items - including a slashed rucksack and a diamond ring - made no sense. And why was everyone so afraid?

Heather L (wordtrix) | 148 comments Anyone else read this one this month? Lots of intrigue here, though as with many of her books I needed scorecard to keep track of all the players.

Louise Culmer | 171 comments I like this one very much,it’s great fun and an unusual setting for Poirot.

I started reading this one at the beach during the vacation, then took a small break and continued in the evenings after the conference. It did not help me to remember the characters and I felt a bit detached from the story.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 148 comments I didn’t feel detached, but it was difficult to keep track of the different characters and most were not very likable. They were petty and self-absorbed. I hope you had a good vacation!

Thank you, my vacation was wonderful! Really enjoyed just sitting at the beach in the evenings, when it is not hot anymore and not too many people around.
