Deep Six is our first group read of 2022. Happy New Year! Enjoy!

Mervi | 49 comments This was my first Cussler book. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work for me. Perhaps because the main plot had a lot of politics: the kidnapping of the US president and three other top US politicians, and the men closest to them are trying to keep it a secret from the press and the general public. It just wasn't interesting to me.

Is Deep Six one of the best Dirk Pitt books? Or about average in the series?

Some of his books have more politics than others. If you want to give Cussler another try with his Dirk Pitt series, I would suggest either Sahara (Dirk Pitt, #11) by Clive Cussler or Inca Gold (Dirk Pitt, #12) by Clive Cussler

Jamie Zaccaria | 83 comments I love the Pitt series but after reading some of the more recent ones, going back to these older ones feels like a chore. They seem so dated, especially in how he writes about women.

I agree that at times they seem dated...but I still love the adventure! I think I have a soft spot for the Dirk Pitt series as it was one of the first that really got me hooked on the genre.

Mervi | 49 comments Thanks for the recommendations, Lisa. I think I'll try one of the newest ones.

I liked some of the earlier ones. They weren't great, but entertaining even if the plots could be somewhat farfetched. He got more far out the longer the series ran, though. I couldn't finish #15 Atlantis Found. My review lists some of the reasons here:
