I just finished “A Wizard of Earthsea” by Ursula K. Le Guin. With it coming out in 1968, I can see how it was controversial since it involves witchcraft and necromancy. I really wanted to like this book but it was just too slowly paced. Le Guin has a lot of great ideas in this story; I can see why people compare Harry Potter to it.

I read "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. I had previously seen the film and musical, but I enjoyed the book best of all.
