Play Book Tag discussion

In my next life I want to be Mary Roach. She takes on the most fascinating science topics and throws herself wholeheartedly into the mix. This time she delves into nature and the ways in which animals and plants 'break the law': bears who enter homes and eat whatever is available, elephants accused of murder, out of control macaque monkeys in India, poisonous killer beans and 'danger' trees that drop limbs or their entire entity onto unsuspecting people. Much of the book details mankind's attempts to solve the problem of Mother Nature's killing machines. For years the military on Midway Island tried to eradicate the albatross as the large birds caused major damage to airplanes. Nothing worked and the former Midway Naval Air Station is now Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. Score one for the gooney birds! Scientists are researching humane traps for all manner of wildlife including rats, possums, squirrels, panthers, cougars and mice. Gene therapy is a possibility for the future as is sterilization and even some laser techniques. Basically, as humans continue to encroach on nature's wilderness, nature will continue to retaliate.

I love to see the wildlife bridges that they've been building around. There are a couple in my area.

I live next to US Forestry land so my "yard" is a bunch of hemlocks and other conifers. My neighbor won't walk outside when it's windy out for fear of a big branch falling. It is disconcerting when you are out and you hear the large crack and wonder where it is coming from.

I listened to this book when it came out and really enjoyed it too! I think I rated it the same.

This is on my list for this month! I think I have missed her last few books (I don't think I read Gulp or Grunt....I may have missed others) but am looking forward to returning to her repertoire.

I think I am the only reader I know who hasn't read one of her books. And I love science books! If I didn't already have a hefty list, I would try to add a Roach book this month (maybe I can fit in an audio). Which of her's is your favorite?

I checked out the audio of Stiff on Hoopla. If the FBI were to investigate my library check outs, it would make me look rather suspicious. I am currently reading Death's Acre: Inside the Legendary Forensic Lab the Body Farm Where the Dead Do Tell Tales in print, along with a fiction tandem read, The Body Farm. Now I just added Stiff. Hmmm.
