Children's Books discussion

I'm looking for an old children's book I read in the early 1980s that was hardcover and had a pink cover. It was about a wimpy / dopey knight that was supposed to kill a dragon but he didn't want to do it and in the end he and the dragon became friends. I can't remember the title or author and it's driving me crazy! Anyone ever heard of it? It was probably published in the time frame of the late 1960s to early 1980s in America. Thank you!

The Reluctant Dragon or another edition of it?

Knight and the Dragon by Tomie DePaola? 1980. Mostly white, outlined in pink. The knight and dragon make a mess of the fight and a princess? gives them books and they start "K & D BAR-B-Q.
