This discussion covers Part II, page 78 – 164

mkfs | 210 comments At the start of Part 2, it seems that the Murr story starts to mirror (murror?) the Kreisler story. At the very least, both have their ears boxed by an uncle during their youth. Have to keep an eye out for more connections.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) It must be Spring! Both of our heroes are meowing for love! They also share a terrible manner of wooing.....

Renato (renatomrocha) | 35 comments Ended up abandoning this one... hope you guys enjoy it though!

Jonathan | 108 comments I hope you don't give up on Hoffmann totally, Renato. Try the short story, 'The Sandman'.

Renato (renatomrocha) | 35 comments Thanks for the recommendation, Jonathan. I looked it up and it seems very interesting! And I was actually looking for a short story to read today and tomorrow, so gonna try it. Thanks again!

Jonathan | 108 comments Hmm. I didn't think I'd be saying this about a Hoffmann story but I'm finding it a bit tedious now. Given that Hoffmann's other works are usually manic affairs this, in comparison, is rather pedestrian. I feel that the Murr story and the Kreisler story would be better off separated and shortened into two short stories of about 80 pages or so.

It may just be that I need a break from this; I've been reading a lot of 18th/19th century material just lately and could do with reading something more modern. Mind you I did get a Hoffmann biography the other day that I'm eager to read!

Renato (renatomrocha) | 35 comments I know what you mean, Jonathan. I found 'The Sandman' really really good and I was anxious to get to the end, while with 'Tomcat' it was a struggle to even pick up the book...

Jonathan | 108 comments I'm glad you liked 'The Sandman' Renato. Some of his other stories are just as good. His other novel, 'Devil's Elixirs' is a fun read as well.

I'll finish Tomcat but may just take a little break from it.
