APRIL:
BOOK LOVERS UNITE - (Title word: BOOK)I'll be reading Book of Night by Book of Night
This is a new release for 2022 that caught my eye.
I’ll be reading Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs, the 3rd book in the Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children series. If someone needs a suggestion, try The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I have read all in the series, and truly enjoyed the writing, it is positively lyrical. You will fall in love with the character Fermin, he is a hoot! The series is based on the Cemetery of Forgotten Books (fictional, unfortunately).
Challenge complete: I read an incredibly short item but it fit perfectly ... author was the main character and the story is told from his POV. Very enjoyable read!
I read The Cat Who Saved Books . It's about a young man whose grandfather dies and leaves him the bookstore that he owned. Consumed by grief he decides to close the store. But then a cat suddenly appears in the middle of the store. A talking cat. And he tells the boy that he needs his help to save books. They embark on a soul searching journey through other 'worlds' and the impact that it has on the boy is life changing. The book is only about 200 pgs long. A quick but powerful read. Highly recommend.
Challenge Complete!Read: Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
The library part was only revealed close to the end, but it was a fun trip getting there. As mentioned in my review- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..., you should read this series fairly close together, and definitely in order. It's a continuation of one story, divided only book to book. Not one you want to jump into in the middle. As fantasy writing goes, this one is unique, partially due to the creative use of old (weird) photographs by way of illustrations. An enjoyable read!
CHALLENGE COMPLETEI read The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. I had mixed feelings while I was reading it. I really loved the general concept but most of the time the excessively fluffy execution was overbearing. Especially when a mental illness such as anxiety was being discussed. I would have preferred a light-hearted story with serious undertones where necessary.
1) Mr. Lemoncello’s All-Star Breakout Game (Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, #4) by Chris Grabenstein; (Narr.) Jesse Bernstein https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
2) CHALLENGE COMPLETE
3) I just enjoy this middle grade series. It’s fun to listen to. I wish I’d read these as a kid.
Challenge Completed :)I read The Secret, Book, & Scone Society by Ellery Adams
and also
The Christie Curse by Victoria Abbott (about a book collector)
CHALLENGE COMPLETEI read Playing with Words Kelly Elliott 5/22/22. It is set in a bookstore where a writer goes to finish his book. He meets the storeowner and uses her family's cabin to finish his book. Of course, they fall in love!
He became a writer because of his love for books and telling stories. She became a bookstore owner because of her love for books and reading.
Challenge Complete! I read The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Beautiful story and themes throughout the book.
Challenge complete, if just under the wire.Richard III's Books: Ideals and Reality in the Life and Library of a Medieval Prince by Anne F. Sutton & Livia Visser-Fuchs
The Cat Who Saved Books
I loved this fantasy novella about a cat and a young boy who enter alternate worlds to save books!
I loved this fantasy novella about a cat and a young boy who enter alternate worlds to save books!
Challenge complete - I read Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey. It's about a group of librarians who go from town to town in a Western dystopian World where only "straight" men and women are tolerated. I'm not sure I loved this one - the plot was weak and the World building was thin.
Challenge complete. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie SocietyI read the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. This was my first epistolary novel and I put off reading this a long time because I wasn't sure if I would like that or not. I listed to an audiobook on this and the format was great for this type of novel. There were laugh out loud moments for me and I really enjoyed the book but felt like the wrap up kind of cut things short. Maybe I just wanted more.
Kinda getting caught up on these challenges, but I read Ensorcelled by Sylvia Mercedes. It’s the third book in Prince of the Doomed City series, and is about a girl who is tasked as a librarian in a library full of magical nightmares that could destroy the world. The series is unfinished, but each book builds on its predecessor in the best ways, and the world is so fun.
