Name: Imani Zubira Age: 22

Personality: Imani Zubira's name means "faith" and "patience", both of which she has very little of. A perfectionist that leans on the pessimistic side of things, she prefers to take on problems by herself because she only trusts herself to get it done. She puts on a front of always having things together but her brain is quite a chaotic place of depression and hypomania (like the 'highs' in bipolar II episodes). Her main coping skill is to work, work, work, so she has less room to think. As for her love life, her crushes on nice guys never work out as she has a powerful energy that often intimidates them as they think she will chew them up and spit them out.
Likes: Nintendo switch games like animal crossing and stardew valley surprisingly, learning, winning, time to herself, weed is secretly her vice
Dislikes: uncomfortable with creative/abstract assignments, objectification, telling people how to live when they aren't hurting anyone, parties, texters that need a reply every 2 seconds
History: Imani was put in the foster care system by her 14-year-old mother who was too mentally ill to care for her, but she was placed there when she was born pretty much and she was adopted as an infant so she has no recollection of it. Imani's adoptive parents never struggled in a financial or abusive stand point, so in that sense, she was very lucky. They didn't give her a lot of affection or freedom to be herself though. She still considers them to be her parents even if they aren't biologically though, calling them her mom and her dad. Her dad is a conservative and strict pastor and her mom is the standard quiet, subservient, dutiful wife. Even at age 10 they considered Jesse to be 'trouble' but he'd been nice to her once she got to know him so she'd been close friends with him anyway, even if she couldn't have him over or bring him up. Even now she wonders and worries about him.
Because of her own adoption, Imani felt sort of like she had to 'earn her spot' and hyper-succeeded to please her parents. She hardly had an adolescence as she worked her ass off to get into Harvard. But once she started there...she wasn't happy. All her years of undiagnosed mental health issues came to a head and she had a breakdown. Her grades slipped and she lost her scholarship, much to the disapproval of her parents. For this year, she's transferred colleges to one more affordable and more doable. Unbeknownst to her, Jesse is a student there where they will share some classes.

Personality: Once you get to know him, he is really nice, kind of a flirt, shocking to his peers belief, he actually cares about stuff and when he cares they will know. Everyone else thinks he just doesn't care and is really closed off. He will snap back if someone says something offensive and will not hesitate to get into a fight with an asshole. He doesn't care about his school mainly because of the fact he didn't want to come, but was forced to by the foster parents.
Likes: Video games, the occasional cigarette, sleeping in, sometimes a drink.
Dislikes: School, anything to do with his family, drugs, assholes, his past, his childhood.
History: Jesse had grown up happy. He had a girl best friend, named ~~, he loved his family, he loved school, he was just happy. Then, one day when Jesse was 10, his father overdosed on drugs. Jesse was sad, but not nearly as devastated as his mother, who became physically and emotionally abusive. One day, ~~ found out and later Jesse discovered that she was the one who had notified CPS about his mother. The day after she let them know, he was put into a foster home with nothing but the clothes on his back. Jesse to this day is still mad at ~~ and hopes to never see her again, as his life would be so much better if she hadn't tried to meddle.
