Hello! How thrilling! I've basically adopted Rune and Brand and I live with them now. I'd invited them to move in with me but there's no room, heh
Truly, truly love these characters, this universe!!
:D
Me: I live in Silicon Valley and I co-founded and co-mod the LGBTQ/GSM Fantasy & Science Fiction group here on GR.
Also, I have a mischief of rats :D
Right now just Humperdoo & Oliver. Humperdoo is 2 lbs! Their brother, Inigo, died suddenly last week of a heart attack. :`(
We've fostered rescued rats or people's surprise litters for 2 decades. Some of my best babies I've had are Baby, Owen, Raki & Enzo, Bowie, Spike & Mike. Owen was part of a colony of albino rats dumped in a county park. He walked right up to the first human who stopped to check on them.
Anyway, yay for this group!
Hello everyone! I'm so very excited to read along and hear everyone's ideas and questions. I was introduced to the books by a friend who told me "the characters are your kind of people. Don't let the fantasy part scare you." And it was perfectly true. Every new character was someone I wanted to know better, rather than just being support beams for the plot. I can't wait for the THT. I'm originally from the east coast, went to school in NYC, and now reside in flyover country where I gave up teaching for healthcare. Love music of almost any genre and I guess I'm looking for a replacement for Spotify, so if anyone has suggestions, sing out!
My reading companion is a 15-year-old toothless rescue kitty named Trudy. I do a lot of rescue promo and support in my off-hours.
Looking forward to exploring everyone's perspective!

Rats! We had four--Frank, Sammy, Deano and Peter. I miss them.
Hello! My name is Jessica but I actually go by Clark and I'm from Portland. I only just read this series back in December after finally giving in to Goodreads suggesting it to me so many times only to regret not reading it sooner because I love all of the characters. My reading buddy is my 4 year old cat Merle
Hello!I am Chad.
I was introduced to The Tarot Sequence at the end of 2019, when I purchased 3 random "LGBT Fantasy" audible books which included The Hanged Man. I listed to THM and after finishing, I realized it was book two, so I went back and got The Last Sun. Over the past two years, I think I have read the Last Sun about 10 times, but The Hanged Man is completely different. It is one of my go to reads when I need to cheer up and get things done at work. The last 5 hours is simply the best 5 hours of any book I have ever read.
Besides my obsession with this story, I love to read or listen to books, watch movies, listen to music, and playing video games. I work in IT and volunteer at a local human society...
I love: dogs, cats, computers, husband... in this order. :-)
Looking forward to getting a different perspective about these characters.
Hello all! I'm Katey (or Kaje). I'm excited for the readalong because sometimes I struggle to integrate myself into reading communities, plus I love author Q&As. I first heard about TTS through my best friend, Perry. As always, ze was right about how wonderful they were. I actually already reread them in January after I read my ARC of THT but I'm happily read them another time.Hobbies... Well, reading. Playing D&D is a huge one! I go through phases of video gaming, writing, tiktokking, and running (though I'm on an exercise ban by my chiropractor).
I love lots of things. My pets (Olly, Sushi, and Moxy). Coffee. The color yellow. Reading tarot. Sunflowers. D&D. My friends. True Crime podcasts.
I post about books on Goodreads, StoryGraph (littlesmaug), booksta (littlesmaug), wordpress (also littlesmaug lol), twitter (kajebird), and tiktok (birdkaje).

Hello, all. My name is Hannah. I stumbled across this book series on Tumblr back in October and thought it sounded interesting. While I'm not normally a fan of first person POV, the first book was so well written that next thing I knew, I was done and it was the middle of the night. Since then, I've already read the books multiple times and it has joined my list of favorite series.
Hello Hannah! A fresh addict! lol
While I don't automatically hate 1st person narrative, it's not often done WELL. Rune just leaps office the page as a well-formed character. There's a lot of commentary & interaction by other characters. And the surrounding characters are equally vivid.
Hi, Meghan. I completely agree and that's one of the reasons I found myself sucked into the books. Rune's POV helps the story rather than detracting from it, which I feel can often happen in first person POVs.
Hi there everyone!
My name is Sam, my pronouns are he/him, and I'm one of the folks helping run this readalong in anticipation for The Hourglass Throne!
I first heard about The Tarot Sequence from a recommendation from a friend in a Magicians discord server during our book club. However, due to the trigger warnings of the first book (and the fact I was HIGHLY hyperfocused on the Green Creek series at the time) I passed on reading TLS at the time.
However, my now partner, Perry came to visit me in NY around the time The Sunken Mall came out and couldn't stop talking about how wonderful KD was, how responsive to critique he was, and how much he strived to do better with every book, and honestly, I really appreciated that. It's been an honor to see how much KD has grown as a writer (and a person) with each work he creates. It helps that I absolutely fell in love with the characters, and the plot, and everything else. Plus I've made some really great friends within the TTS community and I'm so so grateful for that.
I'm currently a Librarian Assistant in NY and I'm going to school for my MLIS to become a full librarian. I love reading, particularly sci-fi and fantasy, Comics, and YA stuff--I'm actually on a YA books committee at work this year. Since that's a huge part of my life, I like to do mostly mindless things in my free time. I've been really into Minecraft lately and I'm trying to rewatch all of the show ER, a medical drama that started in the early 90s and lasted until 2009, because that's one of the shows I grew up with. We'll see if my ADHD lets that last though, haha. Over 300 one hour episodes is A LOT.

Hi Sam! What a great story you have! Librarians are heroes, though very underappreciated.
Green Creek Book 1 was beautiful prose & story. My MIL (a retired librarian) loved them!
I only got to know KD more directly in the last year or so. But he is all the things you said! His characters on the other hand have been in my brain since late 2018. They jumped right off the page and settled themselves in. :D
Hello all!! I'm Pei (she/they), and I'm one of the people helping out with the readalong. If you're on IG, I'm the main person behind the scenes there, and I also run the Scions of New Atlantis discord server. If you're interested in joining the server, shoot me a message and I'll send you an invite! We are large but friendly. :)
The Last Sun was one of the first books I read in my Great Return To Reading after I graduated residency (because during school/residency, what is free time??). I read it while dog sitting my friend's new puppy, who did not let me sleep a wink. I immediately fell in love with the characters! Since then, I have gotten really into bookstagramming (@peireads, come say hello!) and blogging.
When I'm not reading or working, you can find me baking or playing video games. I'm going to do my best to put down Arceus long enough to focus on this readalong! Super excited to get to know everybody and for The Hourglass Throne!

You're going to be an amazing librarian. Public or private research? I know schools don't pay much, but what an asset you'd be.
Hi everyone! I'm Kelsi, one of the people helping organize the readalong etc. I'm @kelsireads on twitter (very active) and instagram (lurker) if you want to connect there. I'm only on goodreads for these kind of discussion groups, storygraph is the book tracker I update regularly and I'm also KelsiReads over there. I'm a booktuber and circulation clerk at a library which I love.
I picked up TLS because of a random comment from someone recommending the series to ProblemsofaBookNerd on youtube. Bless this person. I think I would have found it eventually on the hunt for adult queer fantasy, but they certainly sped up the process. I love the setting, magic, and plot, but like most of the us the characters are really what makes this series for me. I think this is my fourth read of TLS, third of THM and I'm listening to the audiobooks for the first time, they're SO GOOD. Josh's voice for Rune, Brand, and Max are exactly what I imagined.

Hi all! I'm Blue and I first read The Last Sun a few years ago after seeing it on a recommendation list for fantasy with queer rep. I absolutely loved it, and it has stuck with me as one of my favorite series!I've been looking forward to reading these again in preparation for the release of The Hourglass Throne, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
This is my first readalong / reading group I've joined, ever! I also am not great at putting myself out there and engaging with book communities, but I would like to be better at it--so here I am to give it a try!
He everyone! My name is Moxi and I’m very pleased to meet you all and be a part of this reading group. I first came across The Last Sun after one of my (9) Goodreads friends reviewed it and now I am such a huge fan that I’ve read the books and free novellas multiple times and even follow kd edwards on Twitter. I live in Adelaide, South Australia near the beach. I’m a CPA, mum of two very tall and hungry-all-the-time teens, quad skater and runner. I’m in a skate club and a book club that’s really a wine drinking catch up club but we like to pretend we’re cultured. Can’t wait to chat about these fabulous books! Ciao

ohh yay i'm glad you're here for your first readalong!! I hope you have fun!

Hi everyone!I'm Meagan (she/her) and I honestly can't remember what made me pick up The Last Sun, but I read it in December of 2021 and was hooked. I made it through The Hanged Man and the shorts in a matter of days and then had a serious book hangover that I'm still nursing tbh. I love books that feature Tarot and am also a sucker for the "platonic soulmates" and "found family" tropes, so The Tarot Sequence is pretty much everything I could ever hope for in a series.
One thing that has been a pleasant discovery in my relatively short tenure as a fan of these books is the amazing community built around the author and this series. I love how deeply people care about these books and characters, and I love how genuine KD is in his interactions with fans. It's so rare to see an author so involved in fandom, and a fandom that so vehemently supports its author. I spent a lot of time in a relatively toxic fandom several years ago, and I've been really hesitant to engage in fandoms since. But the Tarot Cycle fandom just seems so lovely that I thought I'd dip my toe back in the water for this, my first-ever read-along.
A little more about me: I am a mom of two kids, an unapologetic introvert, and a sucker for well-written fiction. A [totally legitimate] online quiz recently told me that the best "escape" for my Meyers-Briggs type was "reading fiction," and despite the questionable source, I honestly couldn't agree more. Reading has been a necessary escape from reality for me for these past two years, especially, and I am so glad the hobby has led me to discover amazing works that I never would have found if I wasn't religiously trolling Goodreads, Bookstagram, and BookTok in an attempt to block out the outside world for a while.
I'm excited to be in this group and experience The Tarot Sequence for the second time with a group of diehard fans.
I discovered TTS on some Tumblr post recommending LGBT sci-fi/fantasy books. It seemed to check a lot of boxes for me based on the write-up, so I grabbed it. OMG, I had no idea what an amazing series I was getting myself into! I made my spouse listen to the audiobooks with me for my most recent re-reading, and he's just as hooked as I am now.
@Ari How cool is that?! A group audio listen. Do you have to stop it frequently and ask each other "did you catch that? Hehehe" :D
Ahh hello everyone, it's so lovely to meet you all! The main thing I'm getting from these intros is that you all have supremely more interesting lives than I do. No horde of pets for me to share, I'm afraid. :D
I run a book blog (https://pagesbelowvaultedsky.com/) that's undergoing heavy construction at the moment, so I've been on a bit of a hiatus. But I'll hopefully return soon! You can also find me @belowvaultedsky on Twitter and Instagram.
I found out about The Last Sun at the end of 2017. There was a list of 100 SFF books to look forward to in 2018 that Barnes and Nobles released, and under TLS it said something like, "Rune and his companion Brand." And my brain immediately lit up and went "Queer??? This HAS to be queer." For some reason, I never thought to ask K.D. directly if I was right - I just stewed on the possibility for several months until I managed to snag a review copy. Aaaand the rest is history.
I'm super excited to be reading along with the audiobook this time around. I didn't realize I had 6 audible credits floating around, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about Josh Hurley.

I was surprised how his interpretations gave some characters such a twist to my own imaginings.
I will skip info about my life. The cover is what made me decide to purchase. I bought the audiobook. I loved it. I have listened to it many times. I still do.
Hello everyone! I hope it's ok to join the read-along a bit late... I have found out about The Tarot Sequence on Twitter, while looking for fantasy books with queer themes, started reading The Last Sun, and promptly fallen in love with the setting and the characters (and with the relationship between Rune and Brand especially).
I'm Jay and I love urban fantasy and I love love queer books so the overlap here is just perfect. I read The Last Sun in December of last year and it skyrocketed to the top of my list of favorite books. I'm an author myself (of Gay UF), 31, married, and mom of 2 kitties. Can't wait for the third book! I was following KD Edwards on GR but was too jealous seeing other people review the third book so I had to unfollow him lol

This will be the space for you to introduce yourself to everyone in the group. Tell us how you heard about The Tarot Sequence series (if you're new to it or this is your tenth time reading through), your hobbies, your favourite books, your platform(s), the names of your horde of pet gerbils - anything you want to share!
