Each month's Book of the Month nominations must fit that month's theme. Nominations may be any style of comic (American, European, manga, etc) that meets the following requirements:

- Fits the month's theme
- Available in English
- Available digitally (legally)
- Available in print
- Is NOT an Omnibus or multi-volume collection
- Something our group has not read before (IRCB's read shelf)

The themes for 2022 are:

January: 2022 challenge finishers’ pick
Description: Picked by our Goodreads 2021 Reading Challenge completers.

February: “You pick” non-traditional art style
Description: Members pick their own theme book. Watercolor, two-color, etc. (May be extended to more months.)

*March: Writer and/or artist is a person of color
Description: Comics or manga where one or more creators is a person of color.

April: Anthology comics
Description: Comics or manga that contain multiple self-contained stories.

*May: Runners up comics!
Description: Selection out of all the second-place nominations from past BotM polls. Mods will post all options from 2018-2021.

June: Favorite read from 2021
Description: Pick your favorite comic that you read in 2021 and let us know why we should read it! The comic does not need to have been published in 2021.

*July: Sports comics
Description: It’s summertime! Time to play sports! Go outside! Play a sport. But also read a comic about sports? Yes.

August: Banned comics
Description: Do you know a comic that’s been banned or challenged? Nominate it! A list of banned books can be found at http://cbldf.org/banned-challenged-co...

*September: 2022 Eisner Award winners
Description: Winners of the 2022 Eisner Awards!

October: Spooky-not-scary comics
Description: We don’t want to scare the pants off of you, so rather than reading HORROR comics, let’s read something spooky and seasonally appropriate!

*November: Non-traditionally collected/released comic
Description: Comics collected that have been released through non-traditional (ie. Diamond / comiXology) means. Webtoons, Kickstarter, comic strips, etc.

December: Made into a movie or show
Description: You saw it on screen, now let’s read the comic it was based on!
