“So there are large yellow fruits called mangoes… and they are edible?” Harbie had never seen such a colorful fruit before! He’s a regular at Torr’s jewelry stand, and every day he learns something new about human behavior. Apparently, mangoes are Torr’s favorite fruit. “Fascinating! Where can I get this ‘mango’?” The large bull tells him that the local fruit store is closed, but he might find some luck by asking around. He nods eagerly and looks around the square for someone to ask.
Cynthia had never really been outside of the forest. They didn’t want to alarm anyone. But they were running low on herbs, and this was the only place that it could get more. They walked briskly across the square, careful to keep their head down. Muttering to himself the list over and over again, it was surely a sight.
"Excuse me! Do you know where I can find a 'mango'? I was told they are a human delicacy!" Harbie jogs up to Cynthia and falls into their stride. He looks human, but something about him is... off. He doesn't notice the tuft of fur sticking to his bag, or the shifting of the lines on his palms.
Cynthia startles, almost losing their balance before teetering back onto both feet.
“Ah! Er… hello. I believe I remember where to get them.. apologies however, I have not been here in a very long time.” They whisper, their voice echoing outside of their long beaked mask.

“That’s alright! I haven’t been here… ever! Humans truly are extraordinary. Breeding new plants and making trinkets. I got a ‘necklace’ today! Apparently it’s decoration for human throats! It is all very interesting! I learn so much here.” Harbie grins, showing his teeth just like Torr told him to. He hopes he’s doing it right. Maybe he won’t be able to find a mango, but making a friend would be nice.
Cynthia had met many different creatures, so this wasn’t so odd to him. He nodded, continuing to walk down to the fruit stand from when he’d last come.
“Hello, Marble! Do you have any er… mmmangoes?” He asked kindly, and the aforementioned Marble grinned at him and offered two.
“Thank you, Marble!” They grin, offering the appropriate amount of pay. Marble shook their head, and pointed. At a peculiar weight in Cynthia’s pocket.
“Oh! This?” It digs in its pocket, pulling out a geode of garnet. It seemed as if it had just out of the ground recently. Marble nodded vigorously.
“You want.. this! Instead of money?” Marble kept nodding. Cynthia giggles and slides the geode over to Marble, watching their eyes brighten.
“There you are, little friend. I must go now. Have a very nice day!” Marigold hums and starts off again, cape trailing behind them.

Harbie chirps quietly, gazing down at the mangoes in Cynthia's pocket. "They are very large, just like Torr said! And so yellow! This is wonderful! Truly!" He claps softly while peering over his new friend's shoulder. "May I try one? I do not have any human currency yet, but I can certainly find something from my home to gift you!"
“Just a moment, friend.” Cynthia hums, talking to another ‘little friend’ to purchase two drinks made mainly of nectar and tree sap. It seemed odd, but it was delicious. Thick, but good. Cynthia nodded to Harbie, and headed back off to the forest. When well into it, tugged a blanket out of the basket that hung off of their shoulder, and laid it out on the forest floor. Then a plethora of sandwiches out of the basket as well. A basket he’d made himself, actually. It plopped down, patting the space across from them for Harbie. Taking the mangoes out of his pocket, he set them down in their respective places and carefully set down a drink for Harbie.
Harbie looked down at the feast in front of him. It really isn't much, but to him it's everything. It takes him a moment to decide what to start with they both look so good! He picks up the mango and bites a chunk out of it. He gets more skin than flesh, but his eyes light up at the taste. An excited chirp bubbles up his throat as he eagerly takes another bite. And another. And another. Until the mango has been cleaned down to the seed. "Uhm.. is this edible too? Torr mentioned this is a seed... but it doesn't look like the ones I'm used to."
“I mean, it is.. but they don’t taste very good.” Cynthia hums, munching quietly on his own mango. He was completely content, as usual. He’d made a new friend and gone out into the city square without losing his things. And a new friend who hadn’t tried to take off their mask!
Harbie really doesn't care about the mask. "I like your bird face. It's very pretty. My face just has a lot of fur. See?" Harbie's face stretches for a while before settling upon the face of a moth. He tosses the mango seed into his mouth, the crunch loud to his fluffy ears. He picks up the nectar and sips it gingerly. "Oh, this is very good as well. Very good." He takes a larger sip.
