Nanzee (nanzee_jay) Ghana is... very hot? But it gets freezing around the end of December through February. We have lots of mountains and too many cultures. Ghanaians are also a hilarious bunch and do not take anything seriously, including Covid.

English is our official language though and unfortunately, most of us twenty first century kids cannot speak our native languages as impeccably as we speak English.

Nanzee (nanzee_jay) I love lots of animals, especially birds like Owls and Eagles.

I also like cats and big dogs like huskies. I like the little ones too (I have a maltese)

I like squirrels and gerbils and anything that even remotely resembles a hamster.

Koalas and big wild cats too like Lions and Panthers grab my attention.

And then Bears. I think that's it. But mostly birds.

How hot is very hot and how cold is very cold? Do you know any of the native language yourself? Why do you always wear black? Does that color make you hot when it is hot out?

What do you think of Ghana? Do you like it? Do you see a bright future for your people?

What do you think of the US? What do you think of Americans?

Nanzee (nanzee_jay) 😂The hotness of the temperature is bearable to us because we're the inhabitants of the country but lots of foreigners hate the heat. Thankfully, it rains all the time so there's a really nice coolness a lot of the time. Its kind of like a continuous beach day but with mosquitoes. When its cold, its chilly. Especially if you live near the Aburi or Mampong Mountains. It gets foggy and damp and FREEZING.

Yeah, I know two native languages. My mama is a Fante and so I understand Fante completely. But I sound weird when I speak it. My accent is too accustomed to the english language since its the one I was born speaking. My papa is an Ashanti and so I can understand Twi but again, the same problem.
Our native languages are hilarious especially when you're insulting someone.

I wear black a lot because it feels like camouflage. My skin tone's brown but it looks good in black. And yes, it makes me very hot when I go out but again, we're pretty much used to the heat. We're far better than other places like Congo or Sudan or Malawi... They got it bad with the desert sun.

What do I think of Ghana? I think it has the best population of people ever. Ghanaians are fun loving, sweet, helpful, nosy, annoying and peaceful. But we don't seem to be built for the system of Democracy which, forgive me for saying this, but its the white man's system of governance. Ghanaians vote for the most handsome man in an election or the one who seems to be the richest or the one who bribes best...

I loveee my country. It just needs a whole new governance system or at least, a new government. Do I see a bright future? To some extent, yes. But as a realist, I must admit that it feels as though we're just experiencing a modern form of colonisation because we are badly indebted to the higher western powers like England.

Sigh

On the other handddd, its amazing here. The church family is wide and HUGE! The people are fun and friendly and we're all one. Everyone is in everyone else's business and there's never a dull moment. We're also extremely peaceful. So, yes. I love it here. Its one of the best places to raise your kids. They'll have a good upbringing and a good head on their shoulders.

haha I hate mosquitoes, one of the reasons why I live in the north of the US, sometimes it stays too cold and they don't wake up. We have to bring you to the mid-west sometime so you can experience -5 F of freezing haha. I can stand hotness to a point. But I am sure you can stand it way better than me.

I have not heard of Fante, But I have heard of Ashanti. The Ashanti were supposed to be a great warrior people correct? What are some insults which you can attempt to translate for us to enjoy?

I thought I remembered Ghana was one of the improving economies in Africa. The democracy thing is so interesting to me. Obviously you are right, it is the white man's system of governance. But being born in the US and in a "Functional" republic. I could not image a system outside democracy that does not turn into tyranny.

Nanzee (nanzee_jay) What do I think of the US?

I think America is the direct opposite of my country. It seems to have a lot of social issues or issues related to persons like suicide, divorce rates, drugs, depression, discrimination etc and fewer national issues like absence of proper roads, low employment rates etc. Ghanaians don't struggle much with social issues. Like at all. We're too superstitious and traditional. But we have lots of national issues like bad roads, poor PR systems etc.

I've been to the US too many times to be enchanted with the accent anymore. I loved Hawaii but I didn't like Florida. Americans befuddle me, actually. A lot of them make me laugh and their culture is hundreds in one or no culture in every culture. Its hard to explain but it is what it is.

I'm absolutely in love with the land and its sunrises and sunsets, the snow, the architecture, the opportunities... so many things.

Other times, I find quite a lot of americans racist. Just in a subtle way as though they don't even realise it. Most of the time, it seems they expect you to be less intelligent and ugly, immediately they hear you're an african. They seem surprised that I can do math or that my face isn't like a gorilla's or that I can read😂But that's just a very tiny percentage.

I've made some great american friends both off and online, (like Kara, and Book included. And Naomiiii.)

Sometimes I also shake my head when I meet some americans. Some seem to have no knowledge of Africa. Someone once told me Africa was a country and so what city was I from. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I've also been asked if i live in a mud house... Like what??? 😂

But Americans are hilarious and fun people, i think.

Yass. Ashanti is more of the region. The people themselves are called Akans. And Akans are made up of like 8 or more tribes with similar languages. Fante's are included. This makes Ashantis and Fantes almost the same since Fante is like a subset of Ashanti. While Akans or Ashantis are more of warriors, fighter, Fantes are more of farmers and tricksters. They are the sharp-tongued workers of the earth, especially the women.

Ashanti's tend to be good looking, strong, intimidating and good story tellers since our culture is passed down by word of mouth.

If I tell you those insults, how would I use them against you, Austin?

Ghana is probably one of the most developed African countries and among the first to gain independence. But it is far from truly independent. I suppose you don't know that before colonization, we ran on a system of autocracy. More of a monarchy system. A queen mother had children and her first is the new Chief. If her first is a woman, she becomes the new queen mother and rules. That system worked because Ghanaians seem to be the kind of people who respond to the leadership of a King. They don't seem to be adept at choosing that king. There were also groups of elders who governed the king, ensuring his fairness and right rulerships. Its complicated and I risk telling a folktale but it worked back in the day.

Yeah I do have to agree with you. We have certainly traded our souls for material wealth. I do think sometimes Americans struggle to deal with all of the cultures we have inside our borders. People think differently from one another, so when you add more and more people. We get more and more different opinions. Which can be hard to deal with. I think humans are naturally fallen and have sin in them. So without God we tend to go the wrong direction and well the US is about empty if God is the gasoline that keeps America running. Which in my opinion is where we get most our problems from.

And I am sad to hear that Americans treated you in such poor ways. I hope I have not done that here. You are right many Americans have no knowledge of the world outside. Besides what they see from movies. Though I am glad you have so many American friends.

Oh that is so fascinating, I never knew. I guess that explains why you think everyone is so funny and why you spoke of insults. And that is interesting that your people long for a queen. I suppose that makes sense. To be honest Monarchy is probably the system I'd support that is not democracy. I only have a passing knowledge of the country from British wars and I think they might have been the first to gain independence.

Don't sweat it, Austin. Its a learning experience and it was more funny than hurtful. And yess. Too many people are living their lives without the God factor and its part of the reason so many things are not working out for so many people.

What do you think of Europe and the Europeans? Like the English, French, Dutch, Danish, Portuguese, and Russians?

What do your parents do for a living?

message 43: by Nanzee (new)

Nanzee (nanzee_jay) 😂Are you referencing colonisation? If so, I really don't have anything against them. Without europeans we'd still be worshipping the river goddess and her son, the oak tree.

My parents are both pastors. Full time pastors. My papa is a bishop and so is my mama. Please don't imagine popes😂
