Mome_Rath | 1882 comments Lots of good suggestions for BTBA, so I won’t add to the list.

For award-winning from Australia/Oceania, I’ll propose Cloudstreet by Tim Winton (winner of the Miles Franklin award in 1992).

Mome_Rath | 1882 comments For Liberia I was going to nominate Murder in the Cassava Patch by Bai T. Moore, since it a classic that is supposedly widely read in Liberian high schools, but it seems to be out of print. I did find the novella has been uploaded to the Internet, though (links via its Wikipedia page; the TLC Africa site is apparently now tlcafrica2).

message 8: by Frayda (new)

Frayda | 30 comments an award-winning book set in Australia or Oceania
-> The Lost Man (Barry Award for Best Novel 2020 and others; set in Australia)

a BTBA (Best Translated Book Award) winning or nominated book set outside of the US or the UK
-> Horses of God (BTBA nominee 2014; set in Morocco)

(and I second She Would Be King for Liberia)

Both The Bone People and Beyond the Rice Fields are previous group reads. I am including the Bone People since it has been a while since we read it. The other is too recent.
