Sylvia Rangel (goldenseal50) | 48 comments Question: Should I force myself through the first book of The Land or not? Is it worth it?
I have picked this book up 3 times and just couldn't get into it. Will I like the series? It seems I am always seeing this series with great reviews, except for the horrible reviews. If you would take a moment to check out my top 25 on the masterlist to see if this will mesh with me that would be appreciated.
Thank you Sincerely,
Sylvia

Wisp (sentinelwisp) | 5 comments Well the series it is worth it, but like any book it's not for everyone. I use the rule that after like 10% at most of the book and I still don't like it I just put it down for good no matter the reviews and everyone praise that they give the book and it make me feel at ease that I least give it a try and didn't like it. That's my opinion on doing things with book because that there are so many out there and having to slog through one that is no to your liking it's not fun at all.

Thanks Ramiro. I am having a hard time finding anything to read and this has a whole series just sitting there. But I have heard it is full of penis jokes and I am just not into those.

Matthew | 20 comments If you don't like potty humor you won't like the books. Overall I enjoyed the series, but there are a lot of issues with it. The biggest setbacks are open questlines coming out of book 7. Being the best book in the series you are looking for a nice continuation into book 8 and you don't get it. Even if you read the first 7 and enjoy them you should skip book 8. There are a lot of editorial mistakes as well, not just typos and misspelled words. There are several sentences that don't make since and mechanics mistakes in the way certain functions work. For example from one book to another the mechanics for taming monsters changes. I enjoyed the series, the first being one of my least favorite.

Darren | 59 comments I enjoyed the series as well and think it is worth reading 1st book for background. Try skipping a few paragraphs if you find it getting dull and boring.

Crissy Moss (crissymoss) | 30 comments I listened to the audio books which I found good, but the last one I read was book 6,and I won't read any more. It isn't just potty humor, it was torcher, r*pe, and the sheer joy in making it as gory as possible in two books back to back. Not for me.

Aubria L. | 3 comments I enjoyed the Land, and then I grew tired of the series after book 4. I don’t remember why. I just moved on to another series. I saw your Gamelit shelf, and you have some titles in there I have also enjoyed. I chose an audiobook format, and I had a fun experience with Alerón Kong’s The Land (Chaos Seed series). The narrator was great and really brought the book to life! However, have fun, don’t force it if you aren’t feeling it. Here’s an awesome title to try: Shadeslinger by Kyle Kirren. I think you will enjoy it!
Also, just curious, did you love Dungeon Crawler Carl?

I have to agree with Aubria,. The book is okay, but the jokes aren't for me.
I know that the book has lots of reviews, but sometimes we don't like what everyone does.
That's okay.
Personally I'd recommend Shadeslinger, It's the best LitRPG book I've read so far.

Matthew | 20 comments Diana is right Shadeslinger is very good. I am also liking AF Kay's series, only read the first 2, but they are pretty good. It is on the crunchy side though.

Sylvia Rangel (goldenseal50) | 48 comments Okay, since two of you ladies like Shadeslinger I will give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

Nathan | 2 comments I've read the land, it was okay. Near the end it was like the author lost interest. he's started a 2 part book, only did part 1 and then moved on to new series, with nothing new for either in a while.

have you read the ritualist (the competitionist series)?

Of course! and all the related books too. Artorian's Archives are my favorite though.
I was a little disappointed with Inflame.
