February has been a tough month for reading. I am having a difficult time focusing. I sit to read and my mind is not retaining anything. I'm not restless because I am content to sit holding my book for a long time- but that's all I am doing. I just sit and hold it. I'm wondering if all this time at my parents not being allowed to drive or work is making me start to lose it. I have thought I would love retirement so I can sit and read all day. If this is my practice run, I don't think I'll retire.

I have been having the same problem off and on the last few months. I have to force out the noise in my mind in order to settle into a book, and it doesn't always work... I get fidgety or have to switch what I am reading. I discovered that having ambient background sounds or music helps, especially "Skyrim" music.

Skyrim- I'll look into it. My trouble is the outside of my head noise. Namely my dad. He sees the open book in my hands and thinks he should open his mouth. So I close the book and give him my attention and he thinks he should close his mouth. I swear for a smart man, he really is oblivious. But he's adorable in other ways so I let this slide.

Carla Kessler | 10 comments I am retired and I find my mind wandering a lot. I keep certain routines and try to adhere to them daily. It's gotten so I have to remind myself to take time to read now, LOL. I think when it's a more precious gift it's easier for me to focus.
