What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

all i remember is there was this boy that died, he is connected to this princess by a string, they only have a certain amount of time before he fades away and fully dies, there’s this old guy they go to for help, and the cover was blue, had a ring on it, there was string all over the cover, and the title was in gold. I also think there was a second book and the original name was dark knot but it was changed to something else and was published in switzerland i believe but not the usa..the book was placed in like medieval times maybe a little before it was placed in a small village with a small kingdom. read in anywhere between 2017-2018.. please help

it was in english and i believe the boy and the girl were teenagers.. around 16/17
