Marla-Tiye Vieira Hi Everyone,

I am a new author who just received an official review of my novella: "Jasmine Breeze." In spite of my trepidation, it is great! I would love it if you would review my book too. I would be obliged to send you a complimentary copy for your time.

Helen Escott (helencescott) | 1 comments Who wouldn’t love a good review? My latest crime thriller is Operation Trafficked. It is a fictional investigation into the world of human trafficking. I would love it if you could give it a positive review.

Susan I am looking for honest, unpaid reviews for my new novel, A Beautiful Land (Boyle&Dalton, 2021). A Beautiful Land is a story of menace, the maternal imagination, and the forest primeval. Plot and pre-publication reviews, and my psychology and fiction blog, are at https://susanbethmiller.com. The story follows a family of young adult siblings whose internal tensions are in counterpoint with the stresses in a violence-torn land they must flee. If you have an interest in reviewing the book, I am happy to send a digital or print copy. Thank you! Susan Beth Miller

Andy | 11 comments I pushed open the swinging saloon doors, my spurs announcing each step as I walked past the bar and spotted her. She was leaning against the worn wooden railing leading up to the private rooms. I pushed my hat back on my head as I approached, unhooked the lanyard on my holster before slapping dust off my chaps.

"I was wondering when I'd see you," she said, examining her nails.
"It's been a long trip," I replied, as much sarcasm as I could fit on every syllable. "Do you have it or not?"
She looked up, the feathers on the back of her headband swinging in time to the piano music. "Show me yours, I'll show you mine."
"You have no idea what you're getting into."
She raised an eyebrow, finally meeting my stare. "I'm not afraid of anything you're carrying."
I pulled my book from the square holster. "As agreed, my science fiction adventure. If you have yours, I'll have the review done and on Kindle within a week."
"And if I take longer?" she asked, handing me her own book.
I scoffed. "Do yourself a favor. Read fast."

In my experience, reviews have become a cottage industry but the effect isn't worth what paid reviewers charge. The most likely way to get free reviews here is to offer a barter system. I've traded books with other authors and done reviews for each other. The bonus is I get and give real feedback too, not simply 'I enjoyed it'.

My suggestion is to offer a swap. I think you'll get more takers because you'll be tapping into the staggering number of authors craving reviews for their latest manuscript. You never know what sort of adventure might come from it, Cowboy. ;)

Paying for reviews and review exchanges with other authors both violate Amazon’s TOS and can get your KDP account banned.

Consumer reviews are supposed to be just that - reviews left by genuine readers. Authors are so busy paying for or swapping reviews that they overlook the most obvious and easiest way to get reviews - sell books.
