The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by J.D Salinger about a protagonist named Holden Caulfield and his struggle with mental health and life transitions. It discusses issues such as loss of innocence, sex, belonging and loss of identity.
What connected me to this book was the raw emotion Holden Caulfield endured during the novel. Despite being immature, Caulfield is a character that I believe many teens can connect with. I understood his irritability and ignorant perspective on life and how his mental health clouded his actions. I think this book is important to read, especially as a teen/adolescent. I loved how angsty Salinger's writing is in this novel, it lead me to finishing the novel rather quickly.

I rate it a 5/5.
