The novel "Flipped," by Wendelin Van Draanen is a sweet book that swaps or rather flips perspectives throughout. I remember the first time reading it I made a mental note that I have never read a book with that kind of structure before. Julianna Baker was relatable to me because we have the same name, we both love farm animals and nature, and we were both boy crazy. Reading this book was easy and the words seemed to flow. The book was heart-wrenching with how she was treated, the connections she made with people, and the school fundraiser. Heartbreak is never easy, at any age. Julianna Baker learned this the hard way and grew from it. She had every right to treat Bryce the way she did. On the flip side, Bryce is a young boy who did not care about getting to know the "weird" girl across the street who has an annoying crush on him. In the end, as the reader, you can comprehend that both sides were misunderstood for a long time. Maturity also plays into their predicament. One can get a sense of Julianna being more grown-up about several situations throughout the book from climbing the tree to doing yard work with Bryce's grandfather. All in all, the book was a good read the first time I read it and again.
