Sooo, when you said we could rant about our favorite books here. . . hehehTHE SILMARILLION FOLKS!!! One of the best books I have ever read in my entire life!!
Truth be told, I was very wary first picking it up, because, it's Tolkien, and Tolkien books are very long, very complicated, very descriptive, very slow, and not that interesting. At least that's what I thought.
Then I started reading, and holy cow. . . ❤❤ Love at fist read!!
I absolutely fell in love with Middle Earth! (I'd already read The Lord of The Rings, and I liked it, but didn't love love it. . . now I do of course!) The characters, the stories, the history, is so amazing and detailed, and how the heck did Tolkien ever come up with it!?
This book gave me a flipping emotional meltdown it was so good! It was also very depressing, lots of death, destruction, death, and death. . . y'know.
One thing, though. Tolkien wrote it as a history, and so sometimes he'd talk about a character, and then say something like, "and he vanished out of all tales and knowledge" and I'm just sitting there like BUT BUT BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM!!!!!!
But yeah, things I learned from this book:
-Elves have a dark side
-FEANOR NOOOOO
-If you're friends with Turin Turambar. . . well you may as well say your goodbyes now
-Tolkien is literally the. best. thing. that's. ever. happened. to. me.
*breathes out a long, long breath* there you go y'all. If you actually read it, I'm very proud of you XD
OH MY GOODNESS Alison! I can't help but be so giddily happy! My first thoughts went something along the lines of, "Alison... Wait, did she mention something about The Silmarillion?!?! No way! *is unbelievably happy* We have converted another person to becoming a Silmarillion fan! Yass!"
You and I are so similar! I liked The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (but, heh, a lot of it was only because of the Elves (and Tolkien's amazing writing, of course!)), but The Silmarillion really stuck with me! My respect for Tolkien comes 25% because of his linguistical genius, 25% because of his writing of The Lord of the Rings, and 50% because of the First Age. 😉😂😂 You're actually super strong to have finished the whole thing without putting it down for awhile! I was younger, I think, but I had to wrestle with it for awhile (I spent hours poring over fan art lol) before I actually finished it.
Who are you talking about with the "and he vanished out of all tales and knowledge" thing? We can discuss theories with each other. 😁 Is it with Daeron? Or Maglor? (What's with all the musicians disappearing anyway?! 😂😂) Or the dark elves?
By the way, I'm proud of you for reading it! Believe me, my opinion of readers, authors... just people in general... goes up quite a few notches when I find out that they're read The Silm! It's a brilliant piece of work! For example, both H.S.J. Williams and Emily Hayse know the book well, and I can see some of the beauty that we find in Tolkien's works in theirs as well!
Oh, and also, do you have Pinterest? The super, super amazing thing about the Silmarillion fandom is that it's tight-knit, and basically everyone in it is intellectually inclined, if I may say so. That means you'll see some brilliant music and even more brilliant art (search up Elena Kukanova's Silmarillion characters!) and writing. Quite a few of the Silmarillion writers I've read are no doubt good enough to be published authors. Anyway, there's just lots to explore with The Silm if you want more of the characters and the world!
Would you like to talk about it all more with me? 🙂 (*not me selfishly trying to find someone to satisfy my philosophical (and fan girl...) appetite with*)

LILY!! It's so great to have someone to fangirl over everything-Tolkien with! None of my friends like Tolkien and my family thinks I'm just weird when I try and obsess over it with them 😁About the whole "and he vanished out of all tales and knowledge", yes it's about Daeron, and Maglor (Right!? Musicians get all the bad luck XD), and I think it was . . . Elendil's dad?? The second guy who tried to sail to Valinor to plead with the Valar, anyway. It's cool how Tolkien writes like that, but sometimes it drives me out of my mind!!
Yep, I've got Pinterest! And no, I definitely do not spend most of my time scrolling through Silm fan art. . . XXD
But I searched up Elena Kukanova's art, and wow. . . it's so beautiful! 😍😍
Oooh also, just about Tolkien in general, there are some really cool songs and musical artists out there who take his poems and songs and put them to music. Do you know Clamavi de Profundis? Or Eurielle? Because they are absoutely amazing!!!
And please, anytime, let's talk about it all and obsess and fangirl and have meltdowns!!! I don't have anyone else to do it with! 😄
I love Tolkein but I haven't read any of his work in sooo sooo long. LOTRs is the reason I love reading!

About th..."
Have you tried to get at least your family to read at least something by Tolkien? I talked so much about The Silmarillion that my (at the time) 8-year-old sister knew the entire story of it all 😅
Yes! Tolkien wrote about dancing bears in Númenor but he couldn't tell us for sure who Gil-galad's father was?! Like, come on! 😭 I have no clue what's up with Daeron lol, but I firmly believe that Maglor isn't dead. I think he chose to stay behind so that someone would be left in this land who still remembered what happened in the First Age. That's my theory. Like everyone thinks he's less competent than the rest of the Feanorians because he's a musician or something, but he was the one who killed Uldor (can you imagine Maglor angry? 😂😂) and he also had the strength to admit when he
was conflicted or repentant. Maedhros pretended nothing was wrong half the time and that kinda drove him crazy in the end. So my theory is that Maglor purposefully chose to stay and lament for everything that was lost as a sign of strength and not weakness.
Yes, Elena Kukanova is so talented! I love her sketches and paintings for The Children of Húrin, especially the one of Beleg teaching young Túrin archery!
By the way, while we're on the subject of Maglor, there's this one digital painting by Alystraea for a friend of hers... It's of Maglor, and you can definitely feel the power of his music looking at it! See if you can notice all the hidden things, too! (view spoiler) It's all so sad! On one side is the distant and long-lost past, and on the other side is the jumble of the modern world. 😭
(view spoiler)
Anyway, sorry this got so long! I'll talk more later. 😂["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I tried to get my brother into it. . . he listened to the first half of the first chapter of the Silmarillion and quit because "I listened for so long and it's just dumb old singers and a guy that goes off pitch" 🙄😂
And Maglor - I'm going to stick with you and believe he's not dead. He's one of the best guys out there and better than his brothers. Yeah, lamenting by the shores for the rest of the ages is kind of depressing, but I guess you could say it's a kind of strength, because he realizes what he and his brothers had done was terribly wrong.
Haha, imagining Maglor angry. . . I think that would be quite terrifying lol!
Dang! That's a really cool digital painting! All the emotions just packed into it radiating out from Maglor. . . 😪🥰 And I saw the phone, the dragon, and I think a satellite too! All these Tolkien artists are just so talented 😍

Yes, I feel that way sometimes, too! Like, remember back in the good ol' days when our TBRs weren't absolutely impossible to defeat?

What, your parents don't like talking about it?! How dare they? 😂 They don't even like talking about the philosophical side? Haha, but your brother... I mean, he's not that wrong. Everyone always makes fun of the Music of the Ainur in the memes and stuff! I've come to appreciate how beautiful it is, though!
Oh my, I missed the satellite! Can you make out the army in the very back on the left hand side, though? 😀 You can only see it if you turn your device's lighting up so it's bright. And then there's also the watch (or maybe it's a compass?) like time is turning back with the music!
And yep, I know CDP and Eurielle! My sister is obsessed with Clamavi de Profundis, so she usually reminds me to listen to their new song every month. They just released one yesterday; it was a song from the animated Hobbit movie.🥰

Oh! Um..... that's complicated. The main part of it is about the Noldor Elves and their rebellion against the Dark Lord, who is kind of like a Satan figure (he's super evil and also super powerful). The rebellion is led by a guy named Fëanor (see image below), but he was led by hate and vengeance (because Morgoth (view spoiler)). Fëanor swears an unbreakable oath to pursue Morgoth (and anyone else who takes a Silmaril and keeps it from him) to the ends of the world. Then he leads 90% of the Noldor out of the Blessed Realm. This has some parallels to Adam and Eve leaving the Garden of Eden because the Noldor fell from glory just like mankind did.
(view spoiler)
The war against Morgoth, however, is basically pointless because even though the Elves are super powerful, they're no match against the Dark Lord. And so The Silmarillion is mostly about those battles and wars and the kingdoms that the Elves built up (but then they were destroyed...). It's epic. And it's also unbelievably tragic. It has lots of brave heroes and lots of annoying villains and some who are strangely in-between. I have no clue if any of that made sense, but I hope that helped!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I'll have to check out that new CDP song now!
I thought I should update my favorite book since it's changed. It was Mistborn which I still love very very dearly, but let me just say The Way of Kings is so flipping good I'm obsessed with all of Branden Sandersons work lol
