Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances is "in transit' according to the library. Can't wait!
I hated short stories for so many years, always left feeling there should be more for some reason. As you can see from my list I am thoroughly converted. These are my picks for this month
Mrs Fox
The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales
Beacons: Stories for Our Not So Distant Future
Faery Tales

I've read some outstanding short story collection lately:Redeployment
Interpreter of Maladies
Jesus' Son
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories
Jesus' Son and Redeployment ere both outstanding
I just read an excellent collection, Young Skins: Stories by Colin Barrett. Gritty, beautiful writing which won the Guardian First Book award. Highly recommended.
On the list it goes. Have started, but not progressed much through, The Mammoth Book of Steampunk Adventures. Some good so far, and one dodgy one.
I really disliked short stories. Even if I liked some in a collection, eg Saki, I didn't like them all. Now I've met my match. Complete collection of short stories, 600+ pages. Loved them all, except first half of last story( me being picky, it was fine). Elizabeth Taylor( no not THE Elizabeth Taylor). Fabulous. Maybe I just read wrong ones before. I never understood why people wrote them before. Now I do.
I LOVE 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. I wrote a review you're more than welcome to check out, but long story short (hah, pun not originally intended but I'm going to leave it there) I loved every story in the collection and was heart broken when it was over. Some were a little scary, some were a little heart wrenching, most were like an episode of The Twilight Zone, and I ate it up like candy. I've been meaning to read it again. Maybe for Halloween?
A short story collection can be really good if well written, I like it when there are little links between the stories. Two of my favourites I have read recently and highly recommend are Stone Mattress: Nine Tales and The Rebel's Sketchbook
I liked the Margaret Atwood one too, Jason. Didn't like all of them, but most. I do like a Margaret Atwood! The other one sounds good too. Another one for the wish list...

Recently read Burning Bright: Stories by Ron Rash, an excellent collection of stories about Appalachia.
I hope I'm allowed to add this link. It's a 1000 word sci-fi story that I've just had published online.http://dailysciencefiction.com/scienc...
