Yes, I haven't seen it on any lists, but I came across it being mentioned on twitter and since it's a contemporary book by a women, I was all the more interested in the perspective.
https://electricliterature.com/a-lite...Highly recommend Zinky Boys: Soviet Voices from the Afghanistan War which is absolutely relevant as Putin uses his young Russian soldiers in yet another conflict and tightens his control over the narrative employed in Russia "justifying" his barbaric endeavor. Strikingly similar propaganda was used in Afghanistan.

I'm going to read this too - plus while I was on the publisher website, I saw they have an annual subscription so I did that too! Haha.
I'm currently reading Death and the Penguin. I read The Gardener from Ochakov a couple of years ago, and I liked his writing style I just felt like the story could of gone further than it did.
I enjoy the slightly black, Soviet humour in this one. Seems very apt at the moment, reminder of how resilient the Ukrainian people are.
