It really depends on what you're looking for in a cozy mystery. Some are humorous, some focus on a particular hobby or career (knitting/needlework, cooking/baking, bookshops/libraries, animals, etc.), some have more "meat" to the story than other cozies... Can you tell us more about what you like to read about?

Hi, Deborah: It kind of depends on what you like, whether easy and mellow, or a little more "meaty" and a little more realistic (what I call borderline cozies). My five-star authors tend to be in the latter category, with some of their books a little much for many cozy readers. There are some mellow ones, though.

Julie Moffett (featuring geeky STEM MCs)

Annette Dashofy
Gretchen Archer

Kathi Daley (mellow easy reads, several series)

These are all contemporaries, non-paranormal. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of them!

I think any of the ones I listed will work fine for a breather from thrillers. There's some action but nothing I'd consider heart-pounding. For food-related cozies, some authors to try are:

Diane Mott Davidson (caterer)
Krista Davis (Domestic Diva series).
