I'm passing on this title for you all because it recently came my way with glowing praise from a veteran reader. You'll notice it's also on the frontispiece of our group page for a while.

The writing is said to be that highly-polished, refined and finished style of John LeCarre.

Theme? Akin to something by Koestler or Szolschzynytsyn (how do you spell that guy's name anyway!).

Anyway based on kudos I've heard so far, thus stands my own recommendation (albeit sight unseen).

Anyone in the mood for LeCarre style; give this a try and let us know what you find.

Ty ty.

Did it lack action, or pacing? Too introspective? ... what do you think was at fault?

Nooilforpacifists (nooil4pacifists) | 23 comments Thought it was the best read of 2021. A jewel. Am disappointed in the author’s follow-up effort, which is disjointed and (obviously from the start) cannot possibly end well.

I don't remember, but the usual reason I put down a book is pacing & lack of story (plot).

Nicole Ho-Shing | 1 comments I loved this one. I couldn’t wait to pick it up every morning.

Ecpagnew | 6 comments I, too, couldn't finish this one. The main character ambled around musing on different occurrences and occasional flashbacks.

Michael (fisher_of_men) | 2 comments This book was great. The "gentleman" is a truly sympathetic character that you are cheering for all the way through. A fitting end as well since he's able to "stick it to the Man."
