Thought it was the best read of 2021. A jewel. Am disappointed in the author’s follow-up effort, which is disjointed and (obviously from the start) cannot possibly end well.NOfP

I don't remember, but the usual reason I put down a book is pacing & lack of story (plot).
I, too, couldn't finish this one. The main character ambled around musing on different occurrences and occasional flashbacks.

The writing is said to be that highly-polished, refined and finished style of John LeCarre.
Theme? Akin to something by Koestler or Szolschzynytsyn (how do you spell that guy's name anyway!).
Anyway based on kudos I've heard so far, thus stands my own recommendation (albeit sight unseen).
Anyone in the mood for LeCarre style; give this a try and let us know what you find.
