LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Great! I ordered the book so it should be here by 3/22. That should be on time! Mail is so slooooow these days!

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments Perfect!

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I already have my copy ready so I'm ready to go whenever!

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments YDEO has 21 chapters, so shall we do 5 chapters a week (5+5+5+6)? Or would you prefer different pace this time?

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I’m good with 5 chapters each week! It gives me time to wonder about what comes next!

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments Same here! At the beginning I wasn't sure where the story was going, but after the first 3 chapters, when it turned out that Nicky isn't a horrible boyfriend, but a clever beast in disguise trying to get her to dump him, I was hooked! And grinning like a crazy person.
I love Naomi's narration, she's so funny - her dark humour calls to my sarcastic side. And, actually, Nick has grown a little bit on me, too :) I'm so looking forward to what comes next!
Yeah, I hope we'll get a few sneak-peaks from their past, too, just to get to know them a bit better- especially Nick, as we don't know much about him yet, not what's really in his head.

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I agree with the both of you. It would be nice to understand the actual conflict they both obviously experience. There has to be a reason why they got engaged in the first place. It would also be interested to know how they got to where they are now.

I like Naomi, I like her wit. And the little war she's got going on with Nick is truly entertaining.

I can't wait to read the next 5 chapters soon!

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I haven't finished the next 5 chapters yet... But I'm enjoying this book so much that I feel like writing a comment like 'omg omg I love it love it love it' every few pages 😂
Honestly, girls, I can't remember when was the last time I read a book that was making me smile ALL THE TIME!

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Okay these people are starting to annoy me. Naomi should just leave but something about her pride. I need more backstory. Idk the stem of their issues. But I think it’s gone too far without consulting each other on car & house purchases. I feel like Nicky (lol) might be starting to try and comes right away when N breaks down. Also, he mentions he wants a partner in crime against his parents but yet doesn’t seem to defend his wife against them. It’s all very confusing so I’m hoping the next 5 chapters define what In the world is going on with them. What do you guys think about these past 5 chapters?

message 14: by Lena (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I was thinking the same at the beginning and was wondering why Naomi won't just leave. But now I just love their bickering and I find it really funny. I think that obviously they still want to be together - they were happy for the 1st year - and find it unable to just break things off, especially Nicky, hence playing the games. They both have made some mistakes in their relationship and now they're both making the other one realize what these mistakes were.

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I ran into some troubles with time management and haven’t finished my chapters yet. I’ll post my findings tomorrow!

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments Well it looks like they found their way back to being on the same team. I’m liking seeing the romance between them
warm up. Not much to really say as this book seems stuck still and moving so slow.

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I'm gutted that I seem to be the only one here who likes this book! The atmosphere has changed now a little bit, but I was literally laughing most of the time while reading the first 10 chapters! 😅
I think that maybe it's because my own head is full of sarcastic thoughts all the time, being the cynic that I am, and Naomi's narration is oozing sarcasm so I see a friendly soul in her..? Who knows.

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments What do you all think of this book for the next one? If we like it there is a second one because it’s a series.

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments No, Lena, don’t be gutted! I really liked what I’ve read so far and like you, I have been smiling. I have just been way too optimistic in estimating the load I could read while working my ass off both at my job as well as at home to finish my final research paper before graduating.

I switched to the audiobook now and listen to it whenever O’m driving. I hope this way I can catch up.

So far I just really like Naomi and her wittyness.

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments I’m good with a brush of love!

message 21: by Lena (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments Thank goodness for that! I'm really happy to hear that 😄

No worries, I spend nearly every night about 30 minutes waiting for my boys to fall asleep so that's when I read on my kindle (and then I stay and finish the chapter even if I can hear them both snoring) so I don't have any problem with 5 chapters a week for our group, but I'm always happy to wait for any of you if something comes up and you didn't have time to read that week.
Wow, that was a long, probably very incorrect sentence 😂

A Brush of Love sounds good, Laurette👍

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments My deadline is on Friday, so I’m dedicating my Saturday to reading. Squeezing in some time listening driving from and to work. I should be able to finish the entire book by Sunday!

Love to share all my opinions with you then!

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments Just wanted to let you know I’m up to chapter fourteen now, the audiobook really helps to proceed even though I’really busy!

I am still enjoying the book and I like the shift they’ve made after the whole canoe incident. Here they show they still care and share their insecurities with each other. I think it shows a spark of the couple they could have been if they had both been op front and real from the start.

I’m excited to see how this moves on. Can’t wait to find out how Mrs. Rose reacts when it’s Naomi who comes to shovel the driveway (which I think is the biggest move on her part by the way)

message 24: by LC (new) - rated it 4 stars

LC Cardadeiro | 232 comments I’m glad they reconnected in the end and became a team. I guess I just wish I would have known what the heck happened that threw them off in the first place. Very mysterious book!

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I really enjoyed this book. I like this sort of humorous yet somewhat dark narrative, so Sarah Hogle's style here was right up my alley and I'm definitely going to follow her book releases in the future. I'm glad that Naomi and Nicky found their way to each other, because at the beginning I didn't think it was going to be possible.
I had a good laugh reading the first half and I was smiling a lot during the other half. I thought the ending was just right, too, although |I wouldn't mind an epilogue describing Deborah's reaction to everything that happened in the last chapter 😄

Anna A. Lane (annaalane) | 119 comments EEEKKKK! I handed it my final paper in order to graduate and I finished this book and I loved it.

I love how Naomi and Nicholas found their way back to each other in their own way. I know I was curious to know what exactly got them off the right track, but now that I think about it, I actually really like it wasn't mentioned as a fact.

Throughout the story, Naomi and Nicholas did things their own way, and if we were able to interview them and get real answers, I don't think they know where they went wrong themselves, and I think that's what happens in a lot of real life relationships as well.

I really enjoyed the ending as well, but I agree with Lena, I definitely would have expected an epilogue to see how things were (or weren't) resolved with Deborah. She has been such a chunk of their relationship, that I wonder what's next for the family bond.

Lena (madworld) | 232 comments I think that what happened to Naomi and Nicholas was simply life. I think it was mentioned a few times that they had an amazing year together, then they got engaged, moved in with each other and then... I guess they just took each other for granted and stopped noticing the other one's needs and, what's most important, stopped appreciating one another. And when you add Nick's mother to this whole situation... you get the perfect recipe for a disaster - you start falling out of love, rather than staying firmly in it. This book was about how to save that love rather than give up on it, which would be so much easier...
Well, falling in love is effortless. But staying in a relationship when the butterflies have long since flown away and you no longer feel lightheaded when you see your partner is a challenge. I love how this author showed on her characters' example that fixing a relationship, however tricky and difficult, is possible.
