Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is very good. I am not sure if it is too short or not, but its about a young girl in WW2. My younger sisters read it as well. It doesn’t have anything bad in it as far as I am aware as well. Let me know!
I'll nominate When the World Was Ours, such a heartbreakingly beautiful coming of age story amidst ww2
I’d like to nominate the lions of Little Rock. It takes place in the late 50’s and is about racism. It’s one of my favorites!
Some really great nominations! I am interested in reading quite a few of these. We have quite a few for WW2, one for Racism in 1950's, and one for the Titantic. Nominations are still open until Wednesday 3/23. I will create a voting poll at the end of this week.
Keep them coming!!!
Keep them coming!!!
The war that saved my life by Kimberley Brubaker Bradley amazing book that introduced me to historical fiction and it’s clean
The downstairs girl by Stacey Lee. It is a YA Historical (clean!) romance set in 1890s Atlanta. The main character is a 17 year old Chinese- American lady’s maid, who is also not a legal citizen of the US. It deals with racial tension, womens rights, class and identity. Did I also mention it is a bit of a mystery with mind-blowing twists. A great read and I definitely recommend it!
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. This is not extremely violent but has intense scenes. It tells the story of Corrie ten Boom, whose family hid Jews in their home during the Nazi occupation of Holland during WWII.
“The Downstairs Girl” by Stacey Lee. Takes place in 1890, story of a girl who is a maid by day and anonymous newspaper advice column author by night.
