The movie opens with Prince Charming going on a perilous journey to rescue princess Fiona only to realize that she was already rescued. Meanwhile Shrek and Fiona go on a honeymoon and return home where a messenger tells the couple that they are invited to a royal ball by Fiona's parents. They take the long, tiresome journey to the Kingdom of Far Far Away, and when they arrive the local crowd is in shock at their appearance. As they are walking through the crowd both Shrek and Fiona's father Harold, are having second thoughts when meeting. Later Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, the King and Queen have an uncomfortable dinner where Shrek and Harold get into an argument resulting in Fiona leaving upset. Meanwhile in Fiona's room, she is visited by fairy godmother where a musical scene ensues and fairy godmother repeats that she can grant whatever Fiona wants. After Shrek barges in he says he wants to leave and gets into a fight with Fiona where she becomes even more upset. Harold is also visited by fairy godmother and prince charming, and he is told to ensure that the prince gets married to Fiona. Harold later checks in on Shrek and apologies for his behavior and asks if he wants to go hunting with him tomorrow. When Shrek and Donkey meet at the rendezvous, they are attacked by Puss in Boots, and after catching him, he confesses that he was sent by the king to kill Shrek. Shrek realizes that the fairy godmother could fix his life with one wish, so he heads for her potion factory. He ends up stealing a "Beauty divine potion" and escapes, wrecking the factory in the process. Shrek and donkey take the potion and end up collapsing as well as Fiona (potion affects both lovers). Overnight Shrek transforms into a man while donkey turns into a stallion. Fiona wakes up and realizes she is human again and attempts to find Shrek. She finds prince charming posing as Shrek while Shrek finds fairy godmother and assumes that Fiona loves charming. He retreats to the villain's pub where he finds the king talking to the fairy godmother, but he ends up getting captured. Soon after, the Fairytale creatures break Shrek out of prison, and they go to the Muffin man and create a massive gingerbread man who helps them break into the castle. They interrupt the ball, causing fairy godmother to shoot a spell at them which is blocked by Harold and reflected back at her causing her to disappear. Harold turns into a frog and apologizes to everyone, and the potion wears off after midnight. A "fiesta" ensues where everyone sings and the movie ends.
I will give this movie 5/5 for its originality, plot, designs, and characters. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen and is one of my childhood favorites so it's hard to find any flaws.
