Shrek misses when he was feared and had his privacy, and after attending his children's birthday parties during which a series of mishaps occur, he lashes out at Fiona and the rest. Rumpelstiltskin witnesses the event and offers Shrek a contract, that if signed, he can be a "real ogre" for a day in exchange for a day from his past. Shrek signs it and is taken to an alternate reality where he is feared and partakes in mischief. He soon realizes that Fiona is a fugitive, and his swamp is abandoned. He is taken by witches to Rumpel, who is the king of a derelict Far Far Away and learns that Rumpel took away the day he was born, meaning he never existed and never saved Fiona. He will also cease to exist after the day ends. He escapes the castle with donkey, and they find a hidden exit clause that says the contract can be broken by true love's kiss. They find a battle-hardened Fiona leading an army of ogres and an overweight Puss in boots. Shrek attempts to win over Fiona who has lost faith in the power of true love and eventually begins warming up to her. The Ogre army ambushes a decoy and are captured by the Pied Piper, but Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Puss escape. Meanwhile Rumpel offers a wish to anyone who can capture them, which leads Shrek to turn himself in, and wish all the captured ogres free. Fiona hasn't been released because she isn't "all ogre" and she and Shrek fend of the Dragon. Donkey, Puss and the Ogres storm the castle and defeat the witches and capture Rumpel. As the sun rises Shrek begins to disappear but not before Fiona kisses him causing the alternate reality to disintegrate transporting Shrek back to reality where he apologizes and embraces his family.
I will give this movie 3/5 for plot, originality, characters, and design. This wasn't the best movie out of the series in my opinion, but it isn't horrible and gives the audience a satisfying conclusion.
