I was lucky enough to transition from Dance to the Music of Time back into the world of books via Any Human Heart. I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone, but I took this book into my own heart and loved it deeply, deeply. I am so surprised it's not more discussed -- generally, not just in this thread. I've been waiting for comments and there are none. I understand that a portion of it, at least, was made into a television production, which I haven't seen, and that may have been a spoiler for some people. It's an extraordinary book, simply one of the best.
I don't know about you, Areya, but, of course, since Any Human Heart was my first Boyd novel, I went on to read some of his others, and found they didn't speak to me the way AHH did. Which probably says more about me than Mr. Boyd. Maybe the themes of love and loyalty and what makes a life worth living and mortality (are there any other questions about life?) just came to me at the right time in AHH.
