And be vegan. And end world hunger. And reform foster care. Apparently, we can't stand for one cause if we're not in over our heads for every cause. 🙄

Agreed, Carsie. I think what Jennifer (and I!) meant is that most of the time, pro-choice advocates just throw that up as a last defense. For example, if you're pro-life, why aren't you vegan?! Why don't you care about animal lives? Setting aside the fact that one can care for animals and not be vegan, arguments like this just distract from the main issue, which is that abortion kills an innocent human being.

I do wonder, though, why both sides don't come together and try and help reform the foster care system. I hear pro-choicers justify abortion using foster care as an excuse and I hear pro-lifers refuting this without considering whether they can do anything to help better the foster care system (I mean, if there are lobbying groups like SFLA, then why can't there be pro-life groups working in foster care?).

ash🐞 (ash_reads_books) That sometimes you can’t take care of a baby and it’s a better choice for you to abort, cuz otherwise it would be horrible lives for the both of you

That's one I hear all the time! Of course, it fails to explain how killing the child is better

Yeah, like it's never a viable solution to eliminate the person/people who are suffering. That's not even a solution.

We don't kill people who are hungry or homeless or mentally ill so they "don't suffer more". Instead, we develop solutions (e.g. providing food, shelter, or therapy) to actually help the people.

The equivalent of that with unplanned pregnancies would be offering diaper banks, maternity homes, emergency funds, etc. to the mother to help support her and her baby. Not getting rid of the baby.

Anna⸆⸉ (hiatus) ~ Jinu's, Jacks, & Wes' Version ~ (tortured poet)[ | 12 comments That it’s “my body my choice” when in reality, it’s NOT your body. It’s the body of YOUR CHILD.

clown_the_basking_shark Hi, I'm pro-choice, this is coming from a place of helping you understand because none of these arguments are truly what is used.

For all intensive purposes, a fetus is a parasite. It doesn't meet all the signs of life because it can't regulate, it requires the body of the pregnant person to regulate. A tumor is also a parasite and we remove those because they can be deadly, as can pregnancies. Of course a fetus is not a tumor but it is a parasite. It's not living, it might never live if it's stillborn. This is a genuine question, not a gotcha thing, why should we value the potential baby over the already alive and living parent?
