When critically acclaimed author Verity Crawford experiences a detrimental car crash, she is unable to finish her largely popular book series. This leads her husband, Jeremy, to hire a less successful author, Lowen Ashleigh, to finish the series. The novel is told from Lowen’s point of view as she stays with the Crawford’s in order to gain the information she needs from Verity’s office to write the other books. This search for information eventually leads Lowen to find an unpublished autobiography that reveals the horrible truths that wrecked the family.
This book was extremely fast-paced and addicting to read. Colleen Hoover makes every chapter so intriguing that it’s hard to put the book down. Not only is the present day perspective thrilling and intense through Lowen’s point of view, but the chapters we get through Verity’s manuscript are equally captivating. The horrible details that are revealed through the manuscript allow the reader to experience the fear and anxiety Lowen feels throughout the novel. This drives the reader to continue to figure out what will happen to Lowen’s future and what happened in Verity’s past.
Overall, I give this book a 5/5. There was never a time where it felt boring or dull. It was an enthralling experience from start to finish and kept me eager to keep reading.
