Hi Everyone! Welcome! Thank you so much for joining Of Mice and Men Readalong! I'm so glad that you are here. Please do introduce yourself.

I'm Lisa of Troy and will be hosting this readalong. This will be my first time reading this book so I am very excited to dive in. Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this read!

There will be another thread called, "Readalong Discussion (no spoilers/spoilers keeping pace with readalong)." That will be where you can log in and view/post discussion for the book.

Shel Holmes (shelholmes) My name is Shel and I’m from Texas. I read this book in high school but that was many years ago so I’m excited to read it again. I remember it being one of my favorites of the year, which I think was junior year 🤔 Thank you super much for the invite!! Looking forward to it!!

message 8: by George Stenger (new)

George Stenger | 2 comments Hello. This is George.
John Steinbeck is my favorite author and always enjoy talking about his books. The Grapes of Wrath is my all-time favorite book by far and have read and/or listened to it many times. I have read Mice and Men a couple of times and look forward to the discussion. I am rural based and my parents were Depression era children and young adults. The impacted them for their entire lives and they passed many of those traits to their seven children. That is one of the reasons that Steinbeck resonates with me.

I am looking forward to reading this book. Coincidentally, I just bought this book so I am ready to go. I may get a bit of a headstart on it though I am currently reading Blindness by Jose Saramago which I will finish before I start Of Mice and Men.... Thanks for the invite. I have joined a couple of other group reads but was a lurker and did not participate so I am now determined to join in.

message 11: by J (new)

J Hi. I've read this one a couple times and have seen two film adaptations; despite its brevity and simplicity I'm sure we can find some interesting things to discuss about it.

My favorite Steinbeck novel so far has been Cannery Row.

Sam (melaniesk) Thanks for the invite Lisa! I'm Sam and the timing of this readalong couldn't be more perfect. I just completed finding secondhand copies of Steinbeck's Centennial editions and I've only read Cannery Row so far. Excited to pick up another off the shelf and have discussion to go along with it :)

message 23: by J (new)

J Hi Sam, I liked how Cannery Row used some vignettes to add weight and interest to the main story.

What did you think of that one?

message 24: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Barnes | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name’s Matthew, currently between places (long story!) and I’ve really enjoyed Lisa’s other readalongs. This is the first one that I haven’t read before so I’m really looking forward to diving into it later in the month.

Hi J! I really enjoyed it. Despite the amount of tragedies, something about the neighborhood and the characters' relationships were wholesome and nostalgic.

Vigneswara Prabhu | 2 comments Hello fellow reader,

I'm Vignesh, and thank you for inviting me for this read along.

'The Pearl' was the first Steinbeck work which I read. But to be honest, most of the themes went over my head. So looking forwards to reading 'Of Mice and Men' along with you all.
