Hassan | 52 comments In mid-18th century England, an old sailor named Billy bones asks the Innkeeper's son Jim Hawkins to keep an eye out for a "one-legged seafaring man". Former shipmate Black Dog locates and fights Billy but is defeated. Billy is confronted by Pew, a beggar who curses him with "the black spot", that kills Billy soon after. Pew and his accomplices attack the Inn, but Pew is killed while Jim and his mother escape with a map they found in Billy's chest. The map contains the location of pirate captain Flint's treasure, which causes Jim, local physician Dr. Livesey, and squire John Trelawney to begin a quest to find the treasure. Jim befriends the ship's cook, Long John Silver but learns that he and others plan to mutiny and take the loot. Once on the island Jim meets marooned pirate Ben Gunn and they fight alongside the ship's loyal crew against the mutineers. Jim manages to beach the ship but returns only to find Silver and his crew. Silver reveals he made a treaty and takes Jim hostage as he searches for the treasure. They find the treasure chest is empty and are ambushed by the officers and Ben. Livesey reveals Ben took a portion of the loot a while ago. The crew loads the leftover treasure and sets sail with Silver as prisoner. Upon reaching a port in Spanish America, they realize Silver escaped and stole a bag of gold. They return to England where they split the treasure while Jim is still adamant that there was more on the island, but even he's not willing to go back.

I will give this book 5/5 for plot, originality, characters, and historical significance. This book contains an interesting story that probably influenced other stories based around pirates.
