I was really enjoying this, with its hard SF world. It just happens to coincide with the situation and terminology used in the Solar System described in the books I’ve been translating from Japanese, by the hard SF author Kōshū Tani. The satellites of the outer planets and their satellites are colonized and/or orbited by self-contained cities; the outer planets themselves are organized into an OPA, rivaling the Earth-moon system; there is the element of surreptitious operations, criminal elements, and other facets to the story that made “The Erinys Incident” such an exciting read.

And then, suddenly, an asteroid teleports out of danger and communicates with telepathy.
Sorry, but that’s not the kind of mystery I was looking for in a hard SF story. I read it to the end but felt let down, as if Sherlock Holmes had solved a crime by discovering the culprit to be a ghost.
