SCAREDY CAT discussion
HOT SEAT
9 years ago I was alone in my parent's house doing something in the laundry room. My parents had a couple of cats and one of them wandered in. All of a sudden I got a really bad feeling... like a feeling of dread but worse. I looked over my shoulder at a corner of the room and the cat suddenly looked at the corner also and laid his ears flat and hissed repeatedly. There was nothing there.I bolted out of the house and waited in the driveway until my parents came home. Weird thing is, this was a completely isolated incident. I never felt this feeling in the house again.
My grandfather loved Poe and we used to read it together. The house I lived in as a child had a poltergeist who used to break my knick knacks in the night. And I saw one ghost when i was about 12. But I think it's mostly just being drawn to the mysterious and the unseen. I love haunted house and ghost stories.
I'm not really afraid of many things. I guess if I had to nail it down, I feel uneasy around people who are obviously acting psychotic and dogs ( been attacked three times by them.) Both have unpredictable behavior patterns.
I'm the youngest of five, and four of us are huge readers, as my parents were. So I inherited some things from my oldest brother: some LPs, a Lord of the Rings box set (still in the family!). And Stephen King. So I guess that's where it started.I've never had any experiences with ghosts and the like. My scary monsters have been of the real life vaeiety-brain cancer, alcohol issues, getting mugged, and bats. I hate bats. Death has been an acquaintance since I was 7 or 8, so doesn't bother me. In fact, I live in an old mansion, over a funeral parlor (they're not "prepped" here, it's just a stop along the way....)
I also grew up in a haunted house. I was quite used to it by the time I was old enough to have friends sleep over but it did disturb my friends, lol. I have something or someone following me from one location to another. So every house I have lived in eventually has some kind of activity. Sometimes my cats get worked up over things only they can see. Recently a friend and I watched from her front steps all the lights come on in the basement of my house and there was no one home. My kids have had experiences as well.
What makes me a scaredy cat? Heights, for sure, and it seems to get worse as I get older.
The other thing is being boxed in or blocked in by people. I am not claustrophobic, as in being in tight confined places, but I have a hard time being "cornered", you know, like a cat you could say. Most cats I have known hate it.

I'm the same way, Lisa! I can't stand to be in a place where I can't even stand in a corner without being jostled, pushed, shoved.....could never ever travel on that train in India......

I know what you mean. I can usually get through it, if I have to, but I have to be close to a door so I have an out. It's usually an uncomfortable situation.

We're going to change HOT SEAT. We are going to put any member that hasn't posted anything for awhile in the HOT SEAT. We will try and bring them to the land of the living. We will keep the Hot Seat open for a week for that special member.
now, who will be our first victim? hmmmm

the hot seat is going to ANDREA who joined in October 2012.
let's see if we can raise her from the dead.

Great idea. I would like to see after a week and they don't respond, assume they are dead and delete them from the group. Who needs em if they don't want to play with us!
I'm the same way for sure! I was in Wagmens, which is always over crowded to me, when an Asian woman bumped me with her cart. I was already trying my hardest to stay calm amongst the hoard of ppl so I looked at her and smiled when she hit me again..."Oh no you did not!" she flipped me off, can you believe it? So I smiled again, grabbed the end of her cart and drove her down the isle to put her against the meat counter and yelled "Road rage is not allowed in doors!" She was so shocked when the whole isle started clapping. One lady said she'd been doing that to ppl for months and thanked me...lol I have not been back and I doubt she has either!

yep. If they don't reply in a week...they're dead, erased, mummified, driven into the ground with a cart pushed by KC.

I am rarely afraid of things but must admit I'd be especially wary of bumping KC with a grocery cart. LOLBe afraid Andrea, that's a realistic concern. :)
I shall be more than happy to be your Executioner Aileen! Why wait Robert? I'll pop an 11000 cc engine on that cart and let the may lay begin...lol
Robert wrote: "Great idea. I would like to see after a week and they don't respond, assume they are dead and delete them from the group. Who needs em if they don't want to play with us!"OOOooo that's mean!
What's mean, is for a few to carry the load for the many to keep a group interesting. At my other group Monsters, Murderers and Maniacs the one's who have zero comments are sentenced to death row. After we post their names they have ten days to respond or be executed (deleted from our group). If they do respond they are pardoned and are removed from death row. We think this is a fair system for all.
Waving I'm here, don't delete me! I've had a lot going on and we have had all four seasons happening in one week here lately. What scares me are doors. In EVERY movie and book you see, people are hiding behind doors and in closets. At night I have to make sure every closet door, window, and outside door is shut and locked.
don't you worry Kathy, you're safe...for now (baaahaahaa ha ha, that's suppose to be an evil laugh but I started coughing so it's not so creepy now)
It's been 5 days, I don't think Andrea is ever going to rise up. Should we 'eliminate' her now before the 7 days are up? We're all in this together and I would love your feedback.
If it were me, or my decision, I would look at the last time she posted and determine how long it's been. If it's been 3-4 months or longer, then delete. But, that's just my opinion.
I've wondered from the time we started this "waking the dead" stuff why exactly do we need to wake them or delete them at all? What difference does it make to have them as members or not? It's not like we're being fined by GoodReads for having inactive members or anything? I'm just not one to delete anything... members or posts from any board that I've ever owned or moderated. It just doesn't seem right to me to erase people. But hey... that's just me. Let KC get her headsman axe out if that's how it must be. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!
Maybe we should have a poll and the majority makes the decision on how we deal with the situation. That way no particular person is singled out as the insensitive bad ass.

Good idea, Robert. I've made a poll asking just that. Members have one week to vote. :)

Looks great Eric. FYI, Andrea doesn't accept messages and she hasn't posted ever since she joined in 2012. Don't know if that matters but wanted you guys to have this information.
FYI, there may be some confusion on Andrea. She joined Goodreads in October 2012, but didn't join Scaredy Cat till Feb. 27th, 2015?
you are correct Robert, oops. Almost chopped her head off and I didn't even have the correct information.
Sorry Andrea, where ever you are.
Sorry Andrea, where ever you are.
Although my ax is ready and waiting, I have a tendency to agree with Eric. Can we possibly classify her as a GHOST? Who knows if she is actually lurking in the corner or just behind the door unseen or heard from, but watching. I mean what's SCAReDY CATS without a few Ghost's?
Well, if we're all agreed on the official-ness of the poll results, we'll know what to do with them after Thursday. Keep the ol' axe sharpened up, just in case, though, KC. ;)
And the winner is...
* just forget about the creepy undead in our midst and carry on? 12 votes 48.0%

Indeed. You've been spared the axe. The bad news is that you still have to deal with us scaredy cats while you're here. ;)

Nothing scares me..I think I've read so many horror books and seen so many horror movies.. I'm desensitized. However I do have a 9mm by my bed just in case the noises change to something I don't recognize
I'm not as much as a scaredy cat as I used to be; after I had my son, I lost my taste for books or movies that could 'really happen'. I still love my monsters, vampires, aliens, zombies, but I haven't been reading too many horror novels lately. I have some on my shelf and in my kindle, but they're not reaching out and grabbing me.

I will start.
I grew up in a haunted house and when I would see things floating or hear voices next to my ear, I didn't think, I didn't analyze. My feet would just start running in place before my body followed and that's why I am a scaredy cat.
