Samantha (samanthan) | 1 comments I would love some recommendations for historical romance novels with a wacky, over-the-top premise like Something About Emmaline and Lady with a Black Umbrella. In the former, the hero makes up a wife and the heroine is a con artist who begins impersonating his fictitious wife without his permission and in the latter, the hero and heroine meet when she rescues him from thugs by brandishing a giant umbrella. The more outlandish and humorous the premise the better. I'd love a book with a strong, kind of unbelievable hook that's more unusual than the standard tropes. Also, bonus points for the hero and heroine being polar opposites with one of them having a very eccentric personality and/or they're from different social classes. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Hi Samantha. I will have to think about this one. One that does spring to mind is the The Duke's Tattoo - which involves our Hero who after a wild night out on the town wakes up with a tattoo in a place where you should never have a tattoo. He then tracks down the person who has committed this terrible offence....
The other one is very a very old romance by Barbara Metzger, An Angel for the Earl which involves a lady who is at deaths door and before she can enter heaven she has to appear as an apparition to a resolute rake and persuade him to stop his wasteful womanising ways
