Jay Juliano In this thrilling novel about the end of the world, one girl and her father must try to find their way home when they are separated from their home island by miles of ocean. The setting of this book is perfect for an end-of-the-world nail-biter novel. It is set in the Hawaiian Islands which is very different from the typical city-like setting that accompanies an end-of-the-world novel. It provides a more wild and untamed backdrop set in the middle of the ocean for the reader to immerse themself in. The family relationship shown throughout the book tugs at the heartstrings of the reader and provides a sense of relatable nostalgia that most people can relate to. This book also does not follow the cliches that most books tend to cling to. The main character doesn’t have to fall in love in order to find happiness. It’s the end of the world and not everything is going to work out perfectly and that’s what makes the book feel so real. That and the writer’s immersive and descriptive style of writing that perfectly helps put together the novel. J.C. Juliano, 4/6/22
