Beware. There are people out there posing as traditional publishers like Macmillan contacting authors with deals too good to be true. They are scam artists with elaborate schemes to pull you in with plans for big dollar acquisitions of your book. They are NOT with Macmillan.. if you have any doubts go to Macmillan.com and send a message to compliance@macmillan.com

Lois it’s probably in the right section. No, I was just wandering what it had to do with the book Before and After the Book Deal. That’s all. 🙂
In an age when it's very easy to set up a professional, authentic-looking web site, authors do have to keep up to date on scams. I have found the site "Writer Beware" to be quite informative. Here is a link to their current list of publishing. marketing and agenting scams.https://writerbeware.blog/scam-archive/

Well established, well known traditional publishers do not contact novice authors with an offer unless first contacted by the author or their agent and provided with a query letter and brief overview of the author's book. More often than nor, even then, the only response is a brief form letter of rejection or no response at all.The literary field is extremely competitve with literally millions of novice authors striving for attention. The odds against achieving notoriety or commercial success are very high. That said; some have. There is no reason why you might not eventually become one of them. I wish you success.
