The Classics discussion

I've seen clips of the b&w movie starring Leslie Howard. The costumes are silly but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it and how it holds up to the book.

I love the old film. The book seems much more reasonable than the film to me, though. It fills in explanations that the film leaves untold.

SP is one of my all-time favorite stories. Little bit of swash-buckling, little bit of nose-tweaking cleverness, little bit of romance. Have to admit, though - and with all due respect to Baroness Orczy, I REALLY like the movie better than the book.

I read the book many moons ago, and I've seen several different versions of the movie. But, again, it's been a while. But this is one of my favorite subjects - book vs. movie. So, I'm going to go back and read the book again and watch a couple of the movies, and then I'll post. Because I have an actual list of points in which I feel the storyline in the movie excels over the storyline in the book.

Yes, but which movie version? Apparently there are at least two movie adaptations and one BBC miniseries. Having taking a look at some, I like Leslie Howard's version though I am biased.
