Connie (congomez) | 17 comments I love this series. However I was a little disappointed with Fairest. I could see the need for the novella but at the same time I wanted more

I started reading Fairest but realized that it was Queen Lavana's story, and though some series list put it as a prequel most put it right in between Cress and Winter, where it was written in the timeline. I cannot see myself liking Levana any better. I've only read Cinder so far.

I'm 1/2 way through Scarlet and really liking it. I'm glad we get to see the continuation of Cinder and (view spoiler). I think I like Scarlet's book better than Cinder's, we will see if there is a cliffhanger (I'm expecting one) and how bad it is. This one looks like it has a much better chance at ending the main story plot of finding the Grandma, and the wolf and Scarlet being together. (view spoiler) We also get to see Cinder and what comes of her. Does she escape everyone's evil clutches and bigotry... chapter 2. I believe Cinder and Scarlet will connect by the end of this book, I hope.

Liked Scarlet a lot better than Cinder for its ending. Although there are big points not answered, what happens with Scarlet's grandmother and with Wolf and Scarlet is wrapped up. Cinder is less secure in what the future will bring but at least she's at a good stopping point too. I'm almost afraid to go on to Cress as I feel like I'm in a good place to wait for Winter. Might start it closer to release date.

Scarlet is not just Scarlet, it is like a combination of Scarlet 1 and Cinder 2 so it answers nicely the cliffhanger of Cinder. It was much more satisfying. I liked the new character of Captain Thorne.

I didn't have to sign up for Wattpad to read them. Does it tell you that you do?

Carswell's Guide to Being Lucky can be acquired by signing up for Marissa Meyers Newsletter. It comes about 10 minutes after the confirmation emails do.

I am finding these as I go... :-)

Julie (juliejewels) | 19 comments Is it just me or did others that have read Cinder, and Scarlet think Cinder's character was more intelligent than Scarlet? Scarlet seemed to be more heroic than Cinder.

Well... can I say, Scarlet's character seemed more idiotic than Cinder. They both had their stupidity moments. Still Scarlet more than Cinder, so I guess I would call that an agreement. :-)

I mean Scarlet doesn't get that going for her Grandmother is suicide? Where does she think she can take on these people when they (view spoiler) And Cinder, she doesn't get to the point with the prince right away. She hides things that the prince really should know about too. So that is more on her self than her intelligence so yea, Scarlet is less intelligent but definitely more heroic, though kamikaze so.

I'm going to rehash this thread and see if anyone is interested in finishing up this series with me. I've read all the main books and need to read the novellas and shorts. All the shorts and novella, except for Fairest, are in Stars Above. Does anyone else need to complete this series and want to complete it this month or next?

I'm interested. I'll start from the start but I'll see if my crappy library has the audio book. there is a sample I found on an app that I have on my tablet(I'll have to find out what it's called). But the sample isn't enough so I want to find a copy of the audio book.

The narrator is ok.
So the over all series is quite good. The first book, Cinder ends on a horrible cliffhanger but is answered immediately in book 2, Scarlet so since it is out and you can go to it immediately, not a problem. Scarlet ends quite well though you still wonder what will happen in the future to the background story.

I really really liked Cress though it ends on a cliffhanger too so I end up giving it a 4 stars. I could go straight to Winter luckily. Unluckily Winter is 800+ pages and feels it, at least to me it did. The book became very teen angsty and inner dialogy, which seemed to drag. To me she seemed to have ramped up the YA. I think some would like this but it didn't appeal to me. It also had drawn out battles and too many conflicts. Still, the book wrapped up the series well and in the end I was satisfied, it just took the book, Winter, a long time to get there.

When any of you are ready to read the shorts let me know and I'll join back in. Of course if you comment on a book, I'll probably put my 2 cents in also.

So, I read the first novella in Stars Above (The Lunar Chronicles, #4.5) by Marissa Meyer , "The Keeper". It was great to see how Cinder ended up where she did. To revisit old characters and get the story behind how they got there.

Finished Stars Above and it really is a nice follow up to the series. It expands a few of the beginnings by giving us the story or different perspectives, then it gives us a couple of stories in the universe but not of the characters, and finally a ending epilogue of where our characters went after the events of Winter.
