I love comics and graphic novels and I want to know what you're reading! List them here, ones you've loved, ones you're currently reading and the ones you're excited for!

message 2: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments I loved King’s American Vampire, Vol. 1 series.

Also Hill’s Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft series.

message 3: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 320 comments Some great horror/crime graphic novels I read were Black Hole, Torso, Severed, The Autumnal and Gideon Falls (have only started with that series.

I still have a bunch of unread graphic novels here and some of them I want to read next are: Ice Cream Man, Colder, Harrow County, Infidel, Crossed and Nameless.

Junji Ito is of course one of the greatest masters, love his stuff so much!!

message 6: by Jason (new)

Jason | 37 comments Usagi Yojimbo: Origins, Vol. 1 was excellent doing vol 2 asap

message 7: by Jason (new)

Jason | 37 comments Also currently in Judge Dredd Megazine they are giving with it a supplemental comic Hawk the slayer Garth Ennis, its a sequel to the best film ever. Do believe it's also being released on its own.

message 8: by Jason (new)

Jason | 37 comments Really want to get Hellsing deluxe vol 1 but hard to find at reasonable price.

message 9: by Jason (new)

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I'm currently reading Nice House on the Lake, Something is Killing the Children, and Rain by Joe Hill. I've been collecting all the issues of Bzrkr since they started, but I haven't read them yet (I'll read when the series is completed). I'm a big fan of Sandman, Plunge and Basketful of Heads.

message 12: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 320 comments The Deluxe Edition of Something is Killing the Children was on offer during Easter on Bookdepository. Nearly grabbed that but I already have to much unread stuff here :D Sounds great though!

message 13: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 320 comments too

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Yeah, I'm really enjoying it! I think they are making a movie or tv series of it too.
Nice House on the Lake is probably my current favorite though. With every new issue I need to go back and search details from the issues before. It's well thought out and intricate.

message 15: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 320 comments Heard that too...I think Mike Flanagan of Hill House and Doctor Sleep and Netflix are attached to the adaptation

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Yes! That's what I read last summer too. It sounds like a match made in heaven!

Yes & Yes!

message 18: by Ian (RebelGeek) (new)

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 409 comments I mostly read Marvel (Star Wars currently).
I have been reading event graphic novels like
Civil War II.
House of M.
I also love non-Marvel stuff like
Deadly Class, Volume 1: Reagan Youth
The Boys Omnibus Vol. 1
Invincible, Vol. 1: Family Matters
The Apocalypse Suite Umbrella Academy
I read all of The Walking Dead: Compendium One
& Preacher, Volume 1: Gone to Texas .

Back in the 80's, my favorite was the X-Men.
It's too much to keep up with in recent decades.
That's why I just read the big stories.

Loving all these recommendations, thanks guys. I definitely got my start with Marvel, Spiderman, the avengers and iron man comics specifically. Locke and Key blew my mind, the art in that one was amazing. Liked Something is Killing the Children and like some but not all of Bitch Planet.

message 20: by Ian (RebelGeek) (new)

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 409 comments I forgot to mention, the last Star Wars graphic novel Dark Horse Comics did had incredible art. It's an adaptation of George Lucas original script The Star Wars.

I can't remember for sure if I've read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley but it seems like I remember it from a long time ago. Just got an e-mail that there is now a graphic novel that just came out this week.

Brave New World: A Graphic Novel

message 22: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Ehra | 58 comments Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things is a gem of a horror comic and highly accessible for anyone looking for a short, contained series.

message 23: by Trustno1 (new)

Trustno1 (carosabotage) | 22 comments I love Squirrel Girl
Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall was really nice as well as Home Sick Pilots. I also heard lots of great things about My favorite thing is monsters by Emil Ferris but haven't checked it out yet.

message 24: by Caleb (new)

Caleb CW | 275 comments I kind of want to check out Vinland Saga, has anyone here given it a go? And if so is it worth delving into?

message 25: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 217 comments I read a bunch of comics too. I got some Superman titles on the pull list but some of my favorites titles past and present are Monstress, Saga, all the Black Label titles from DC, Spread, Lantern City, East of West, Manifest Destiny and most stuff created by the Luna brothers.

message 26: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 217 comments CalebCW,

i have heard nothing but good things about Vinland Saga. It's been on my manga radar for a bit as I've been wanting to expand the manga collection.

message 27: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 318 comments I am new to comics and graphic novels really but keen to dive in since I now work at a comic book/pop culture store lol.

Just bought my first - the new Venom Epic Collection - Symbiosis.

Oh yeah! I forgot about Saga, it's been so long since I read some of them I have forgotten almost everything. I'll have to pick that one back up, especially now that there are new issues!

Guys! Saturday is Free Comic Book Day! Are y'all going? I don't have anywhere in my town that participates but if I have time I may drive a bit to a bigger city so I can get some free goodies. Last year we got 3 free comics, a bracelet, enamel pin. All kinds of little freebies. It's definitely worth it if a store is doing anything to celebrate! Let me know if anyone goes!

message 32: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments Ooo I feel like free comic book day always sneaks up on me. We have so much going on this Saturday.

message 33: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Ehra | 58 comments There are some excellent webcomics out there where free comic book day is every day.

The Pale has strong Twin Peak vibes and Phantomarine is gorgeously illustrated.

Thanks for the reminder, Sally! I'm going to House of Secrets in Burbank, CA. I have a subscription folder there, so I'll pick those up as well as the free comics.

I work at a comic book store so we were giving out freebies but it's pretty low-key here in Aus now so we don't do anything too dramatic. It was still fun though and I'm hoping to suss if we can take home from anything that might be left over after tomorrow :D

message 39: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 334 comments Batman: The Killing Joke got it from the library a few years back and loved it. Bought my own copy and yeah. it's brilliant to me.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - A Serious House on Serious Earth, another favorite of mine. It's definitely dark and quite a deep psychological trip.

message 41: by Felina (new)

Felina | 648 comments We tried to go to a comic book store for the holiday and the store we went to said they didn’t get the stuff for free comic book day. We were lamed out and then went and got bangin’ BBQ so the evening wasn’t a total bust.

Aw man! The first comic shop we went to didn't really have anything except the FCBD comics (you could take 3). No other freebies so that was kinda crap. But we also went to a 2nd and Charles store and they had really good sales so I got a bunch of used books for cheap. There will be another FCBD in October I think, maybe you'll make it to that one!

Spider-Man Venom
DC: Dark Crisis
Titan: Doctor Who
IDW: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Image: The Bone Orchard Mythos prelude
Dark Horse: Stranger Things

Go Felina! I haven't read them yet but I've seen some of the art, it's good!

@Ian lucky! We arrived fairly late in the day also and they were out of Stranger Things. But they still had the Buffy comic so I was happy. We also found a Hot Wheels Joan Jett semi truck for only $10! SCORE!
