Disappointed, I expected much better from Pixar. I was looking forward to a movie that breaks misconceptions around girls' adolescence and periods. Instead it falls back onto teenage stereotypes e.g. growing apart from and totally rebelling against your parents, that's something many of us fear as tweens but it doesn't usually happen like that. Also everything was just cringe and the main character was dumb. The mom is presented as the bad guy but she was totally right about controlling the red panda and keeping it secret because Mei could kill someone with it, or get taken advantage of (like she was). But of course, she's thirteen and doing her own thing so her mother's worries don't matter.
*SPOILER* I forgot to mention; what was it with the personification of menstruation as red pandas? Look at the mom's panda, it's enormous, scary and destructive. She almost kills half her family when she loses her temper. How is this supposed to reassure young girls that periods are completely natural and NOT some sort of curse or monster to be afraid of?

As a Chinese girl, I heavily relate to the family dynamics. I think it was an accurate movie, TBH.
It sucked. Mei twerked in panda form at her mom and was super rude and disrespectful the entire movie. Main characters should be role models.

But they showed the "good" Mei for about 5 minutes and "good" Mei didn't save the day. Rude twerking Mei did.

It's meant to show how she can still do good things even when rebelling from her parents. Of course, when you've just started disobeying your parents, a lot of kids start going overboard. It's a part of growing up

When you've just started disobeying your parents?!? When I hit that period I rebelled in a very quiet way. Actually, none of my siblings went to the ridiculous extent Mei did. You don't just sneak around your parents backs using yourself as a freak show to get money. Do you know what that symbolizes in a off-handed way?
And movies that give the example of extreme rebellion is only encouraging it. Kids will watch it and think that is the way to rebel. They will try to emulate it. I have a ton of siblings and work with kids. I've see this happen.
Elizabeth L. wrote: "The twerking was hilarious."
Twerking is never funny. That isn't somethings kids should be seeing as an example. It's sad a thirteen-year-old would even know what twerking is, much less be presented with a movie glorifying it. (I didn't know what twerking was until I was 16. Pure bliss.)

Ummm I disagree. You should be learning how to NOT disobeh as you grow up. Sure you may feel more rebellious but that doesn't make it right. You cannot do good while doing bad. You can't punch someone while telling them you love them and mean it. That's nkg how that works. She was being rebellious and disobedient, and even if she did a little good that doesn't change the bad. That's the problem with kid movies nowadays. The kids rebel or do something bad but save people and somehow that excuses what they did wrong. No! They still should be punished for their disobedience.

YES! That's exactly it!
YES! That's exactly it!
Some movies are perfectly fine. Frozen, for example. Little Anna and Elsa got into mischief, setting off the entire movie. But they were perfectly enjoyable characters and showed that loving your siblings is great!
In Encanto, Mirabelle was trying to help her family the entire time while learning she's special in her own way. She only lashes out at Abuela when Abuela is blaming her for absolutely everything for the third or fourth time.
I'm not a huge fan of Disney ever since they admitted they were trying to indoctrinate kids, but most of the movies are perfectly fine and show wonderful lessons. Turning Red is completely wrong and and doesn't present any good morals.

Right? I was really shocked when it came out since it was made by Pixar. Pixar usually has good movies, like Brave and WALL-E. But I guess since Disney bought Pixar.
Disney movies are just getting worse and worse. My niece and I sometimes watch the trqilers and make fun of them. But the things they're teaching the kids are like :0 whyy? how? What?
But like Lennin said: Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted

Brave was great! See, that's an example of rebellion I actually like. Merida rebelled, but it was because her mom wouldn't listen to her and insisted her way was right. A relatable situation.
And when she did rebel, the chance came to her, not the other way around. And it was all in an effort to make her mom understand. She didn't want to rebel so much as be herself and for her mother to accept that she wasn't the perfect daughter. And most of the movie was Merida trying to fix the mess she had created.
Right? The classic quality has just gone down. I think Cinderella and Aladdin were some of their best movies, and those are ancient Disney history!
Disney admitted that they want 50% of their characters to be either "people of color" or gay. Yes, they said that. I'm not against more variety, but they should be following the population percentages. In this way, they are discriminating against straight white people.(I know I'll be called a white supremacist for that)
Plus they shouldn't be presenting characters that are obviously gay. Luca, for example. Perfectly fine. If I hadn't been told I would have thought it was just a friendship.
You don't make fun of just every movie? Watch Enchanted with your niece, you'll have tons of fun with it. I watched it with my friends and we just made fun of it the entire time.
We also watched Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm a pretty logical person, so I kept pointing out flaws and things that didn't line up. My friends actually got mad at me for it😂
Isn't that scary? That's why schools are putting so much more effort into teaching kids about imaginary genders than real subjects.

Haha not every movie, just the stupid ones hahah.
Right? And Brave showed that learning responsibility was part of growing up, where Turning Red was the opposite!!
My neice says Encanto was good. I havent seen it yet

Well, Enchanted is pure cheesy. So yeah, it's stupid.
Exactly!
Encanto was amazing! It's one of my favorites, though the music is half of the reason. Those songs are catchy!

Oh, I cry easily. I've cried over characters so often I literally cannot give you an estimate. Harry Potter was one of the most painful things I've ever read. I must've cried at least ten times for that series.

I liked Encanto but I think it's gotten super overrated now. I agree about Brave and Frozen, they're two of my favourites but also Mulan is amazing (the cartoon, not the terrible live-action version)

Almost every popular thing is overrated.
Ooooh, yes! Mulan is great! I like both versions. I wish they hadn't strayed so far in the live-action; it's a whole new movie. I wish the love interest had still been the captain. He added a whole new level of risk to what Mulan chose to do.
