Over on Discord a bunch of bookish GeekGirls join Little Red Hat in reading the Windsor Knot, so we decided to make it a Iggle Bookworms readalong!

It's the first book in "a highly original and delightfully clever crime series in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves crimes while carrying out her royal duties" and we are of course wondering, if this is true.

Will you come and join us investigate this cozy murder mystery together with the queen?

We'll start the second week of May, so everyone has time to get their copies.

I'm reading it too and I really like it. It's cozy and not everything checks out factual, but it somehow really feels as if the queen is solving mysteries. I agree with Little Red Hat on spoiler two.

I still have no idea (or care for) who the murderer is. It's the characters that make this story. I also somehow feel about the queen as more of a person, instead of the monarchy. Do you get what I mean? I know it's all fictional, but still, can't help it!

I think the concept of the Queen as hidden detective is amusing, and yet, not completely unbelievable. S.J. Bennett's portrayal of Her Majesty was respectful but realistic, and her fictional self, along with Rozie, were very likeable protagonists. I was reminded somewhat of another royal portrayal by a different Bennett, in The Uncommon Reader.

I always struggle to piece together "whodunnits" (I can never solve them!), but I thought the ending brought everything together perfectly and cleverly, as the genre demands. For me, it was a relatively quick and light read with moments of tension, but which never completely crossed the line into "thriller" territory.
