Billie's Not So Secret Diary (billiesnotsosecretdiary) | 273 comments Does anyone know if the kindle's changing of docs will give us issues with downloading/reading books?

Courtney H (guenevol) | 7 comments NetGalley currently uses the .mobi format so they will have to change that for their "Send to Kindle" function. Using the .epub format and uploading it to your Kindle manually will work if NetGalley doesn't update their website in time for the change.

Thank you. I hope NetGalley is on the ball!

donna | 2 comments I am worried they want to push people to their app will not make the kindle format change.

Sarah | 69 comments They don’t have to change anything. There’s already an epub option. That’s the whole reason Amazon is switching so their hardware will no longer being the only one using .mobi.

donna | 2 comments but the epub has to be downloaded to your pc then sent via email to your kindle. extra steps. right?

Sarah | 69 comments Yes that’s what it looks like. But that’s still better than reading from an app.

Billie's Not So Secret Diary (billiesnotsosecretdiary) | 273 comments I hope NetGalley makes a workaround. My kindle will NOT download the app, and I don't like reading on my phone.

Sarah | 69 comments Really, they still don’t have to change much, just the file format of the file linked to the send to kindle button. There’s no reason they can’t still send the Kindle files direct to Kindle. (It would just be an ePub file instead of a .mobi).

And if we do have to download the ePub before sending to kindle, it’s not that many extra steps, click the download button, open your email, type your kindle email in the “to” line, and attach the downloaded file direct from your download folder.

You can even do this from a phone (I do it with the Tor.com freebies they offer monthly). I promise it’s not that hard and they aren’t going to force you into an app.

Melissa (Always Behind) (melissaparcel) | 11 comments According to what I've heard, Amazon is already using epub, they stopped using mobi a while ago. There will be no changes in Netgalley, you can still click the "send to kindle" button, it will just be in the epub format. You won't have to do another step.
