I got the same email .. I don't know the answer either ...
I'm guessing that they will change the format requirements for the site, but I don't know. I hope they do so we can still "send to Kindle" with the acceptable format.
Right, I hate the app and only use it when I'm forced to. Maybe NetGalley will switch to all ePUB files? Because that is what Amazon is doing.
I am honestly not a technology person. I assume that the books we have previously purchased through Amazon will still be available to us and they will update whatever is needed. I think this only applies to outside files (like NetGalley), so hopefully they will make the same changes.
Someone just posted this in another group:

Looks like the old mobi files will still be supported, but you won't be able to send new mobi files to your Kindle. My understanding is that NetGalley already also offers epub files, so they will likely just stop accepting mobi files because Kindle was the only device that used it, I think.

So anything from NetGalley or anything other than Amazon, essentially. The files you have downloaded will still be able to be accessed.
Thanks, Elyse!
I know, Tasha. I am guessing that most people want to be able to read on their Kindles, so NetGalley will likely work it out.

I did read one book mostly on the shelf app and it wasn't bad, it's just that I don't really enjoy reading on my phone unless I'm stuck somewhere with no other option.
you can have the app on ipad and I am sure on kindle. I have it on my ipad and phone. I read mostly though on the ipad
I don't have a problem with the app, but I also only have it on my phone. It's convenient for the audios, but not ebooks. I never use our iPad. It is a super old original one. lol I don't think I could even download the app onto it. And my Kindle is out of storage! Apparently, I need to go through all the books on there and remove some. Of course, my Kindle is pretty ancient in terms of technology too. :)
I usually read on my kindle voyage but I will see if I can get the NG app on my other kindle, if I can get it then that would totally work. It would actually give me an excuse to use that HD kindle as it just sits there on my book cart.

Dear Kindle Customer,
Thank you for using the Send to Kindle service to send personal documents to your Kindle library. We wanted to let you know that starting August 2022, you’ll no longer be able to send MOBI (.mobi, .azw) files to your library. Any MOBI files already in your Kindle library will not be affected by this change.
MOBI is an older file format and won’t support the newest Kindle features for documents. Any existing MOBI files you want to read with our most up-to-date features for documents will need to be re-sent in a compatible file format.
Also, compatible formats now include EPUB (.epub), which you can send to your library using your Send to Kindle email address. We’ll also be adding EPUB support to the free Kindle app for iOS and Android devices and the Send to Kindle desktop app for PC and Mac.
If you have any questions, please visit our help page or contact our Customer Service team.
Regards,
The Kindle Team
