I don't know how you feel about middle grade fiction, but I enjoyed this series, beginning with
City of Ghosts

Hi Brandy,
Yes, I read and enjoyed this book, too! Maybe This Time is a take on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
I agree with Georgann about the City of Ghosts series--some ghosty thrills that aren't too scary. Also, The Canterville Ghost is fun.
Since you like Jennifer Crusie and, I'm guessing, a romantic element, you might try Heather Graham. I'd start with Haunted, which is the first in a series. You could also try Long Time Coming by Edie Clare and The 20's Girl, The Ghost, and All That Jazz by June Kearns.
Happy reading! I'd love to hear what you think!
Brandy, I wrote a book called the Haunting At Ambleside. I wanted it to be an easy read, a bit scary in places with some memorable characters. It’s on kindle unlimited so you can read it for free if you have that. I think you might enjoy it, and it would be fantastic to get your feedback.
I recommend the haunted, and the follow on story Ghosts of Sleath by James Herbert. Haunted is something of classic ghost story, while the Th Ghosts of Sleath, which is my most loved Ghost story, deals with a mass haunting of a small Village in the Chilton Hills, there is a third book in the series, Ash, but I would not really recommend it.

I really liked Haunted--both the book and the movie. I found The Ghosts of Sleath too violent and disturbing. Did anyone else have that experience?
I just finished Himself by Jess Kidd. I loved the writing (lots of ghosts plus magical realism) and recommend the audio version for the full Irish flavor. The ending was a little ambiguous though.
oh the Ghosts of Sleath was pritty gorey, which I'm not a huge fan of, but it was also creepy, which i am a huge fan of, Its one of the few ghost stories to send a chill down my spin

I'm a fan of Jennifer Crusie's romances and expected the same from "Maybe This Time," and was shocked to find some very dark, oppressing, active ghosts. And more shocked to love them in the book! I couldn't put it down. Has anyone here read it? And can you recommend something similar? There was no gore in this one, but manipulation, conversations, old-fashioned spooking and frightening.
Thank you!
