Superheroes in Mythology

Hey Brian, I've been thinking about the connections between mythology and modern superhero films like marvel, etc. I guess the obvious ones would be the likes of Thor and Loki who have a clear connection (at least in the name!). I don't know to what extent the old myths link in with the new storylines (you and your friends might know). Generally, I suspect themes like power, love, sacrifice, heroes, and villains, travel from old mythology to modern media. On the flip side, I reckon they probably get massively Americanised when they reach Hollywood. (I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about though. Just winging it :)

I hate when they americanise the beauty behind these classical characters but that's another argument in itself lol. I believe ALL of DC's main characters are a rip off of Greek Mythology characters. For instance:
Zeus = Superman
Hades = Batman
Hera = Wonder Woman
Poseidon = Aquaman
Flash = Hermes
Artemis = Artemis
Ares = Hawkman
Hephaestus = Cyborg
There could be an argument about Shazam! being like Zeus but in this context all these characters of DC, their power and persona at times mimic these larger than life mythology characters.
I wish these characters in Greek mythology would get movies or stories focused solely on them. The way Marvel has developed Loki and Thor is EXACTLY, in some ways, of how I would develop these characters. They are very relatable, even if they're gods. Humans come from the gods in Greek mythology so personality traits would be conceived in us humans. So these gods I think could be very relatable if the story was done right. Ok rant over lol

Hyppolyta wasn't a goddess, but she was a daughter of Ares. I think she's the more accurate Wonder Woman comparison!

You know I can't really disagree with that! She is a warrior and queen of the amazons. I know in the comics and movies she is the daughter of Hippolyta. I could even compare Wonder Woman to the goddess Athena because she is a goddess of wisdom and war. But you can see the comparisons between iconic superheroes and gods and goddesses of mythology. It's just frustrating for me that we don't get any proper storytelling about the Olympian gods themselves. The closest lately has been the Percy Jackson series but that story falls into the demi-god storytelling narrative. I want the gods to have their own time to shine in the light.

Fam, I tried reading Percy Jackson, and while I love that it's getting kids into Greek mythology, I was so frustrated with it. The portrayals of the gods were disappointing on top of not really being about them. The Norse gods aren't inherently as popular as Greek mythology, so I get it, but also... Some more rep would be fun. And N O T as the villains (read: Ares in Wonder Woman, Percy Jackson, etc., Hades in Hercules, etc., Aphrodite ever...)
Omg your like me!!! 😂 I understand Percy Jackson was for children but being an adult I want to see a story of the gods going at it or on an adventure. Hades NOT being a villain all the time. Like showcase Hades being a total boss and showcasing his full arsenal. Like pulling a soul out of a body and then throwing it into another body and you got two souls fighting each other in one body but to another person it looks like that individual is crazy lol.

I've been having this healthy debate lately with a few of my friends and I tend to argue that superheroes today in all medias were inspired by the gods in mythology. It doesn't matter which mythology but you cannot deny the influence of the gods on the tales of some of these superheroes. My question for you all today would be:
What superhero would you match with the gods of mythology?
