CoffeeShopReader says that for a light, funny book The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi has, "some real consideration of the pandemic, human impacts on their world, and a good dose of corporate evil."

I've read two pandemic set books, Kaiju Preservation Society and Mia Hopkin's Tanked. Both were very good in different ways and I was surprised at how ok I was reading them. I think partly it's because both authors have taken the pandemic seriously.

I think Scalzi's Kaiju book is the only one fully set in the pandemic that I've read. Apples Never Fall had it appear at the end, which was slightly jarring at first, but in the end I think it worked.

I know I have read a few books that have a pandemic setting (not necessarily current events) but only Ain't Burned All the Bright comes to mind right off the bat for now. Of course, I've read several written during the pandemic so their tone/message is one of hope/getting through/etc.
