brienne (brienneyy) Hi!

So (yes, I use that more often then I should) I saw that lots of people on here play the violin… could you guys help me please? I am terrible at shifting at 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th position…

And if any of you have any questions or need help, you can post it here, too. (Should I make a homework help thing too?)

I used to, but I don’t have Volume 3 or 4, so I quit. You?

I do Essential Elements.

Exactly what I do when I’m ‘practicing violin’.

Self-taught myself the piano. We temporarily moved to my grandparent’s house, so we had to leave it behind. :(

Avery | 95 comments I play the clarinet!

message 9: by Avery (new)

Avery | 95 comments I was also in chorus before I moved. I'm debating whether I want to do it next school year or not

message 10: by Avery (new)

Avery | 95 comments In my school there was only me and one other clarinet, so it was hard to only have two clarinets in the whole band.

Avery | 95 comments Oh, well, it's hard to just learn something on the spot. I was going to have a band concert, but I moved, so after months of learning the songs, I wasn't able to play them

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I play the violin but I'm kinda bad at shifting so I need help too lol. I also play the piano and I realllllllllyyyy want to learn the clarinet.

message 15: by Avery (new)

Avery | 95 comments The clarinets a really fun instrument!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Ikkkk but my mum said that I should be concentrating on violin and piano first which is probably true

message 17: by Avery (new)

Avery | 95 comments I quit violin a few years ago, because I didn't like the teacher lol, and even though I don't have the same teacher now, I'm glad I quit

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe it just wasn't the right instrument for you :)
I play the violin and I'm allergic to rosin, although it's quite mild and I have a really short pinky finger which makes it hard to reach some notes

ikkk

message 21: by brienne (new)

brienne (brienneyy) Oof.

message 22: by brienne (new)

brienne (brienneyy) I’m thinking of quitting, but I don’t know…I don’t really like the teacher and the assignments, but I like playing the songs.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Well maybe you should change the teacher. If it's the teacher stopping you from liking it, it doesn't rlly mean that you don't like the instrument, but my opinion.

I was going to try the violin this summer, but I'm going on with the guitar currently. Still, can't wait to learn the violin!

Yes, the violin is a really good instrument and it's a bit hard at first, but it's lovely!

She’s free though… my parents dont really want to pay 30 dollars per minute for a tutor… and the one i have is already pretty expensive

Okay, fair enough. I'm lucky that I get it quite cheaply as well as having a good teacher

How I learned it was by knocking on the door first with the violin hand position and as you get more confident, try playing one note at a time, hope that helps.

brienne (brienneyy) Saraswati wrote: "I was wondering if anyone has any tips for playing vibrato? I’ve been working on it for a while now and I can’t seem to get the hang of it."

My teacher made us do hand exercises first. It depends on what type of vibrato you’re doing, but the website I found is pretty nice: https://www.thestrad.com/playing-hub/... i recommended Violin Inspiration for more tips. Julia is the best.

What I liked to do was vibrate my 3rd finger with my other fingers off the string. I’m not sure if that’s correct or if it’s bad for your fingers, but that’s how I learned. Hope this helps!
